Next election? I think they will try to fix this issue before 2020.

Why is she delivering in Spanish? I see a lot of you on here attacking her for it and I don't blame you but is there maybe some valid reasoning behind this? Did she say she was representing all of DACA or just the Hispanic community?
Sorry just out of the loop on this one.

UGH - why spanish?! We live in America. Speak English. You are representing almost a 850,000 individuals (not to account for other undocumented folks).

Hey, I've been told I hate Mexicans on here several times when I say this but out of all the immigrants I have met, and I've worked with thousands of them, Spanish speaking ones tended to be the ones who refused to learn English or at best, speak in broken English. I know it's tempting when there are radio stations and TV stations that speak your native tongue but if you want to be a part of this country, the very least you can do is speak the Language.

The Mexican natives also tend to fly the Mexican flag at immigration rallies which again makes no sense to me. I have never met a more proud bunch who love their former land enough to fly the flag here but not enough to live there. It wouldn't bother me all that much if it wasn't for the fact that these people are the face of immigration reform and keep hurting the cause.

Because the immigration advocacy groups are incompetent.

Well if it weren't for spanish speaking immigrants most of you would have been relegated to the side and shipped off in containers.

I swear if she starts speaking in "Spanglish", I'll laugh a little. If she then starts "waiving a Mexican flag" in front of Congress, I'll throw my TV set out the window.

Not only is she going to deliver the speech in Spanish, but it's probably going to be in a disgusting chicano accent or spanglish. Disgusting.

Hey person who just signed up last month, possibly with multiple accounts on here.

I guess we may never know how immigrants would be treated if the vast majority of them were not from Mexico and Latin America but I doubt it would be as you claim.

Scenario 1: Alternate reality where Mexico and Latin American countries were perfect and there was little to no migration to the US:

I have relatives who came here in the 50's and 60's when illegal immigration was not an issue (I guess since migrants would just come to work in the US and then head back home on off seasons) and nobody really gave a damn either way. Even international students would go get a SSN, and apply for work and nobody ever asked a thing.

It wasn't until the mid-70's when there was just such an influx of migrants from the south that it became an issue that needed to be dealt with and laws became harsher and harsher. If Latin countries had stable economies and there was no need for them to come to the US for work, would we be where we are today? I doubt it. Perhaps eventually it would have become an issue but certainly not where we are today.

Scenario 2: Our current reality.
Currently, the vast majority of undocumented people are Spanish Speaking and/or from Mexico. There is no debate there, it just is. I would concede that DACA and talks of immigration reform have happened because of them rather than the other immigrants; however, I would argue that a lot of the negative coverage of undocumented immigrants that has hindered immigration reform is also due to Hispanics.

By my own anecdotal observation non-Spanish speaking immigrants, tend to want to be here more. It was a lot harder for them to get here and they tend to assimilate better because it was sink or swim once they got here.

Myself, I was speaking English to the point where I was fully functional in school after 6 months. It wasn't magical or anything, I worked at it. At the same time a Mexican kid (Carlos) in my class never spoke a single word of English the entire year and my Vietnamese buddy who had been here a year longer than me was absolutely destroying even the American kids. His father worked at the same kitchen with Mexican fathers so it's not like any of us were privileged.

Having babies with taxpayer money? who does it more? Come on, be honest with yourself...Crimes that are committed by undocumented, which group does it more? Again, be honest.

So yes, while I'm fully aware that any talk of immigration reform is mostly for the benefit of Hispanics, if you look at the net result, it's even at best. They're not exactly crazy about "you people" either.
