That is a great question.

I'm obviously fighting this case in court, as i previously stated. But i think at this point even immigration attorneys aren't sure about how these new rules are going to apply to deportation proceedings moving forward.

I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen to someone if they have a clean record and try to apply for any kind of relief after any charges are dropped or dismissed. Under the new executive orders, as you guys probably already know, even if you've been only charged with something but not convicted, that is apparently enough grounds for deportation proceedings to be initiated against you.

So, i don't really have an answer to your question. I think we'll get more clarification in the following months.

How far from home did they take you once you were detained?

In my particular case it wasn't far at all. They first take you to a processing facility and that takes about 2 hours, and then they take you to a detention facility. Luckily for me, both of those were only about 15-20 minutes from where i live.

However, I've read articles where people are often taken very far from where they are arrested. Sometimes even to a different state.

So with current guidelines you're ripe for deportation.

That's the general consensus, yes.

However, being placed in deportation proceedings doesn't necessarily mean you will be deported. You get a shot at presenting your case before an Immigration Judge and they determine your fate. ICE's job is to simply put you in front of one.

It's still unclear how Immigration Judges will move forward with the new guidelines.

What state are you in and how many days were you behind bars before getting detained by ICE?

Will do.

What motivated me to post this thread was the fact that an arrest and detention by ICE can be very terrifying for someone who is not familiar with the process. It can have a very detrimental effect on someone, or at least i know it did on me. And i want to be able to help prepare anyone who may find themselves in the same situation.

The state is irrelevant.

And i was behind bars for approximately 48 hours before being detained by ICE.
