I was under the impression that they wanted to change chain migration for all US citizens, not just Dreamers but this Flake tweet has me thinking if they can change it just for us. I'd be okay with the idea of them not letting just us not sponsor anyone.

I do believe some want to end chain migration for all US Citizens. I remember Flake in another interview saying to end chain migration for all in a DACA compromise bill would be too much, so I think this is the way of compromising.

This. That would be the only way that limiting "chain migration" ( I hate that term) would work. If they want to do it for all US citizens, then we are screwed.

Yeah I agree with this. I think overall the chain migration issue should be addressed in CIR. If they want to address so many of these overall immigration issues with Dreamers, they are really just attempting to do CIR, and need to remedy a fix for all the 10 million other undocumented people.

What the hell is wrong with tough Border Security and a wall ?? Don't we want to live in a country that is safeguarded from random people just walking in? I think its a fair deal. Maybe just partially funding the wall if not fully. In fact it already has been partially funded. This is the price Democrats will have to pay for being so weak in December! We want our Dream Act to pass immediately!

Yes, but I don't see that bill going anywhere without major revisions. In SUCCEED we had to give up our due process and other immigration benefits. I'm assuming they'd take the part of SUCCEED where we can't sponsor until we are USC and add it to more friendly bill such as RACA.

I think with the chain migration the Trump admin is pretty much talking about all immigration petitions GOING FORWARD. There's no indication that we're putting the undocumented currently here in any limbo. This whole idea that you can move to America only if you have a blood relative citizen is just UNFAIR and its bad for the country. The administration has a point here we have to admit!

Yes, the Trump admin wants this on all immigration peitions, but that doesn't mean Congress wants that.

As I said before this idea of family based system versus merit based system is something that needs to be discussed under CIR. And let's not pretend that the reason people like Cotton and organizations like FAIR want merit based for 'fairness' or 'for the good of country'. They are hoping that by changing to merit based (and reducing immigration levels by 50%) that they can prevent more brown people from becoming citizens.

That's why I think a PARTIAL compromise is what Democrats should cave to now. All that definitely can't be as part of a compromise for DACA but I think we are the ones who will have to cave a little more. That's the whole point. And I am not too impressed by Flake putting that Cotton guy in the compromise group.
