My strategy is to be selective. You first check their profile. Make sure they're ambitious and has some sort of dream that they want to achieve. Make sure their profile says what they say they are. Some lies and some don't. You can do that by talking with them or them talking with you vice versa. If they constantly reply to you right away then that means they're interested. If they reply to you hours or days then that means they're not interested so you move on and find someone else. You can talk to other people simultaneously but try to see one person at a time.
Also, you have to make sure thag the person you're talking with have at least a good job and not just slacking around. I've talked to a lot of guys with different job background such as Medical student, chemical engineer, manager of a store, fingerprint clerk/prospective police candidate, milk factory technician, and military/TSA.
Prior to meeting my husband, I made sure that his intent was good and it was. He and I were on the same page about finding a relationship that will eventually lead to marriage.
I think this one actually sealed the deal. Most guys in OkCupid just wants to have sex or want a short term relationship. You're right there are a lot of weirdos out there in OkCupid and you don't have to reply to them if they send you a message.

If you're female, then it may be worth trying out if you are really bored and are curious.

If you're male, don't bother.

If you heed the above advice, you will save yourself alot of time.

You kidding right? Tinder is full of spam and it is really fast to lose touch, and people who first contacted you stop responding really fast

It's true though. OkCupid made their app be more like Tinder with the swiping. Pretty much all my dates in the last 6 months have been through Tinder. OkCupid used to be THE place but not anymore. I see the same 15 profiles over and over there.
