If he's ever going to have a decent shot at the presidency in 2020, he has to move to the center. This could be the opportunity.

He knows the Republican ship is sinking in 2020 and doesn't want any part of this. He may be a heartless prick but he's a smart heartless prick.

He did have a closed meeting on DACA and border security yesterday.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't expect anything to happen. However, Ryan did convince Trump on that crappy spending bill that Trump bitched about. Trump wants his wall to please his base. Maybe, Ryan can lead the charge on a deal that he can convince both sides on.

Let's see what happens.

My greatest hope would be for him to become "unhinged" now that there's no midterm election to worry about. He could become the next Flake or Corker.

...but then again as a lot of people mentioned, he could turn into another John Boehner, who did absolutely nothing.

I've read an article last year predicting he would leave his spot this year and run for the 2020 presidency. It's pretty insane how accurate it was on how Ryan would deal with the Trump presidency on the first year so that it sets him up for 2020. Seems like every Republican wanted to get theirs in for a year so they could try and reap rewards later. Completely spineless and self-serving.

This fucker recently said that the Trump presidency is worth it due to being able to pass the tax cuts. He got his money for his buddies and himself and now he's out.

Trump was signing the spending bill no matter what. He was just putting on a show by adding some drama. Ryan’s influence means nothing.
