I get it. And I am with you, but I like planning ahead. To find a good job, with good pay, in a good city, takes time and money. if you show up all unprepared, unaware of how the market works or what the market pays are at in the specific zone, you'll get lowballed.

I wanna make sure that doesn't happen. We should have a leg up coming from US companies. I have 2 YOE in a F50 and 3 YOE in a F100.

To give you an example. I've spoken to Engineers that got transferred to US. They say it's way different. Environment, Pay, Benefits. Mexico seems to be an 8am to 7pm even for engineers. No sick days, limited vacation days. Also, apparently there is no real interview process, they look at your resume, they'll call you in for a behavioral, and you are set. A lot of companies also make you sign your resignation as part of your joining.

So. yea. I wanna know what's coming. And in that interest, I'd like to know what other fellow engineers have found out and what they plan to do. Who knows, maybe we'll need each other.

I'm with you, I also like planning ahead. Whether or not DACA is likely to get canceled is irrelevant. I want to hit the ground running.

Wife will be USC within 1 year but my AOS will still be complicated and a lot can happen before all that is settled.

I'm currently preparing for Canada Express Entry application to have that as a plan B.
It's also about time to leave my current employer, so I'm focusing on finding a company with global presence.

The info you gave about employment for devs in Mexico is all new to me.
Thanks for the insight and please share any more you have.
Going back to Mexico is a plan C at this point but, like you, I wouldn't want to show up unaware of how things work there and do myself harm. Even if I were to go Mexico, first thing I'd do there is to try to leave to Canada or Australia.

I expect a decrease in salary regardless of where I go.
I expect a decrease in quality of life were I to return to Mexico.

I follow this website, you might also, about a couple who successfully emigrated to Canada: https://xpressentrycanada.com/

Yes, I'll keep you posted. As I mentioned, I have access to people who know the market first hand, at least in Mexico, here at my current employer, but I haven't really had a deep dive conversation with them, as that would involve disclosing my status.

I interviewed for a company in Hermosillo before DACA came about, was almost ready to go and then DACA happened. Saved by the bell. At the time, I told them that I couldn't travel outside the country until I had an offer in hand, they seemed okay. Obviously I didn't see it through because of that DACA but that may be another option.

I am also curious about CANADA and my current employer has a global presence so I could transfer. However, similarly to you, I am also kinda done with my employer and the only thing holding me back right now is the fact that they have a Canada presence and that may come in handy.

Problem is, right now, I can't tell what's best, stay and accept to be underpaid because of the global presence, or find my self a higher paying job and try to save up as much as possible before doomsday.

CANADA. Only thing that worries me is that one of the pre-reqs says that you must prove that you'll leave the country when your permit expires, I don't foresee my permit expiring if granted, but how could you realistically prove that you'd leave if you have a history of not doing so.

Would you lawyer up for the CANADA process?

Yeah your job problem is tough. If you already are on good terms with management, a transfer is more likely. I'm trying to hurry to find another job soon because even if I do land a job with a company that has offices outside the country, why would they go through the trouble of transferring someone who's been employed for (possibly) only a few months?

About the Canada prereq, I'm talking about Canada Express Entry which grants you permanent residency immediately. Maybe you're talking about a work visa? I am not familiar with the work visa requirements. Express entry shouldn't be too much of a long shot as an educated, professional software engineer. You should look into it, the people in the link I shared prior went to Canada under that program.

I am not sure if I would lawyer up, it doesn't seem like a complicated process. However, for something as serious as this it may be worth it to have someone double check that all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. It's something I still have to think about more.
