bull shit. I jump ship and get $$$$. You don't own the company. There is no loyalty needed. Career progression == jumping ship around.
I see what you are saying but the woman promising is one of the 8 people on the executive board of the company. She has a lot of power. I know her for the last 5 years and she wouldn’t bluff.

While the money is more, if I get the promotion is December, I will have a higher title and I can cash that in next year too.

Definitely a lot of think about regardless.

May I ask what what kind of profession you are in, that gives a better perspective as every profession is different.

One thing I have found is that people often view "current" salaries as a benchmark for your next salary. I've seen this a lot where you often get your offers based on your current salary, so if you do stay at your current employer and take the extra 30%, should you decide to leave again, going to the extra pay bump should be an easier transition. You're likely get better offers than your original 50% bump.

The extra 30% does change things a bit for your decision.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Does your new "promotion" get increase your earning potential for a future or current employer? If the answer is YES, and it is by a large enough amount, then I would stay for that promotion, if the promotion falls through, that's your chance to leave and it aligns with your DACA renewal date.

I am in professional services aka consulting. I am being promised Senior Manager position in December with salary raise (20%) that would go into effect immediately. The person promising the promotion sits on the executive board and often single handedly makes promotion decisions so I am certain that if she promises it, it will happen.

This woman is one of 8 people who runs this billion dollar company. She spoke with me for about 30 mins yesterday and offered direct mentorship with her. She used to be my advisor but since her joining the executive board, my advisor was changed to someone else.

On the flip side, the people at new employers seems just as nice . I don’t have a certificate that is needed for managers and above in my field but they are giving me time to get certified and paying for it. Not to mention the salary is exceeding industry standards and I would travel domestically a lot which is exciting. Downfall- it would take me 1-2 years to make senior manager.

If I were to jump ships after the promotion, it would still be in the ballpark of what the new company is offering me. They are essentially giving me the $$ without the title (because I don’t have my certification). I am assuming there would be additional
Pay raise if and when I get promoted in couple years at the new company.
Lang.

I'm scratching my head wondering how some of you guys are making 6 figures. Maybe I just got into the wrong major (graphic design) in college :/

TBH I may have a different outlook to this.

I would leave, reason being is that they only offered you more money when another company is interested in poaching you.

Think about it, you are valuable but don't respect you enough to give you proper raises and career progression in the first place.

You mentioned the new position is at a top 10 consulting firm. How about your current firm? Is it a brand name?

Just another factor to think about. Having a brand name, in many industries, is a bigger plus than having a higher title at a smaller, non brand name firm.

But whatever your decision, congrats!

Are you freelancing at all? Almost every single graphic designer I know (about ~5+ yrs exp) are easily clearing 6 figures, but they are either 100% freelancing or freelancing on the side in addition to their full time. Of course some firms don't allow moonlighting, so it might not be an option (at least contractually).

Edit: I'm sure there are many different types of graphic designers, but my above data is from UI/UX designers, video editors, and general designers in tech.

Both are well known names. The new one is slightly more but not enough to impact decision making. I worked for PwC briefly.. nothing will top that so I already have brand value on resume. That’s a very valid point though!
