Power is back on, and I finally have hot AND cold water. This was a very difficult week. No power for 3 days with the temps in the teens. Roads were iced over and I had no way to reach my elderly mother's house who also didn't have power or heat but fortunately the neighbor did me a solid and helped her get her fire place going. Then when the weather thawed out there were burst pipes in the attic that caused damage and I was finally able to go there to plug them up.

She had done everything right, openedup the cabinets, had faucets dripping, etc. but when the power went out and the heat gone, pipes in the attic (even those with insulation) had no chance. In this case the ones that burst were going to outside faucets. Texas houses depend on the house being heated to keep the attics from reaching hard freeze temperatures so it was a complete clusterfuck. The ceiling in 2 rooms needs replacing now but at least she's warm and has a functional house. Insurance doesn't cover the plumbing repairs so we need to go back and fix some stuff but they do cover the ceilings...with a $2500 deductible.

My elderly father is still in the hospital and not doing well but I was actually glad he was there because this storm would have killed him.
