Haven't people with DACA been using AP for years now to clear EWI....

They have but there was a regulation change that basically stipulated that TPS holders can't do it anymore, and considering that AP was for the most part unavailable for DACA holders for a while we haven't had any test cases.

I applied in early March and still waiting. My case is in Nebraska and their processing time shows from 3 to 5 months, but I'm hearing it that it can take more than 6 months. I put in expedited request couple weeks ago and also asked congressman to put in inquiry as I need to travel by mid May so hopefully hear back from them soon. I'm planning to call the office starting next week to see if they received expedited request and congressman's inquiry.

I've been researching about the AP clearing EWI for DACA, all I could find was about TPS. Memorendum does not say anything about DACA, but then way they worded might be interpreted differently. If anyone interested, read this from USCIS.
