right but is L.A. 100 miles within the border??? Sorry, my geography is bad. But because L.A. is a sanctuary city.... I dont' see a problem from L.A. to here in the bay. Bay area is practically sanctuary area. Seriously, just take the viet bus.

from L.A. to tijuana its 134 miles. so you be the judge. S.F. is definitely a sanctuary city, undocumented immigrants are surely accepted there, although it seems like ICE seems to be cracking down in some of the L.A. suburbs.

I've heard of ID checks on Amtrak and immigrants getting caught.
Same thing goes for Greyhound buses, too.

I really wouldn't risk flying at all.

Maybe ask another friend who can drive to go with you?

Flying...............to be honest with you if you DO NOT have a goverment issued ID, you are in deep you know what!

Besides I saw signs all over the place that said, "Must have a goverment issued ID"

For flying, the only international form of ID that is recognized as valid Identification is an international passport. I highly doubt that the airport will allow you to show other forms of International ID unless the ID originates from Canada or Mexico.

Look, this thread is completely pointless and irrational. All of us can try flying without DL/ID. Whether we're successful or not depends on many factors, including the ability of the TSA Agent at the airport, the presence of ICE/CBP, the boredom of the ticket agent etc. If some of you are continuously successful, then be happy that you don't arouse suspicion.

So all these questions about "Can I use this or that to travel" is really pointless. You can use whatever you want; you've been warned so if you get caught then thats your problem.

Unless its a real emergency such as a family member is sick or dying, then avoid travel by plane or driving within 50 miles of both borders. Reasons like "oh my friends are taking a trip and I so baddly wanna go, pleassseee" are stupid. Grow up.

And the whole discussion about sanctuary cities or how many miles from the border is pointless.

Sanctuary city or not, federal law enforcement trumps everything. Sanctuary city policies forbid LOCAL law enforcement from questioning immigration status. It does nothing to prevent federal law enforcement from enforcing immigration laws within a city.

Secondly, 100 miles or 200 miles, it doesn't matter. Do you really think that if ICE started questioning people about immigration status in Kansas, then someone would say "no they can't, its not within 100 miles of the border".

RahmanIV basically nailed it.I understand everyone has to live their own life but such a decision could be a lifetime problem for your future here in the U.S.If you don't have a U.S. issued government ID traveling really isn't really worth the risk at this time, until there is a new administration at least.

Just to clarify, the within 75-100 miles border rules is a Customs & Border Patrol rule but regardless of whichever enforcement agency whether it be ICE or CBP,both still spell the word screwed.

Thank you for your kind answer. Let me clarify some things, however. Considering I did not know all this information before I wrote this question, I do not think it was pointless, because I now know. Thank you for that. Also, considering I was not insane or spouting illogical babble in my question, I do not think it was irrational, either.

Secondly, we are not visiting this college because our friends are going. It would have been us and us alone, visiting a potential transfer school. I for one think it is a good idea, a non-stupid idea, a grown-up idea, to see where you may be spending the two years finishing up your bachelors degree.

Finally, please do not cast this post as me attempting to spread the risk of my gf's apprehension among all the DAP. Of course it is our problem, that much should be obvious. We were not planning on calling you if she was apprehended. Since when was asking a question and seeking advice a crime?

In any case, we are not going anymore due to the fact that the college is visiting us, or rather a location close enough to us.
