Way to go Taskguy & girl !

Usually new immigration documents take a maximum of 3-5 work days from the national benefits center no matter where in the country. It also only took about 4 days to get myself a new SSN so he might want to get on USCIS's back until he gets the card & SSA until he gets his new SSN,since a month is waaaay too long.

Those of you reading this that are in this situation should really take advantage of the help and advice Tasksgirl is offering. You can read, research, and do more research but still not fully understand how to go about a process like this. Having someone who has actually been there firsthand almost hold your hand through the process is priceless. Congrats to Task and Tasksgirl, and don't forget to vote.

hehe don't worry I'm voting.

I know a month is quite a while we've been down to the SS office several times. We have gotten the 'welcome letter' where it has a sorta case number where you can check on the status of the green card but not the SS. Last time he went they told us that immigration had sumbitted his name wrong (left out his 2nd last name) and they had to fix it. Rawr. They said to check back this week so tomorrow he's going to call again.. There were 10 people on my forum who got approved the same day we did and only half have gotten the SS. Some have the SS but no green card and others have the green card but no SS. Just another example of how lovely and consistent the immigration system is

Aw you guys had a thread about me..? I read through alot of old threads yesterday I didn't see any!

If anyone wants to see some pics just add me on myspace .. www.myspace.com/tasksgirl I have some from Juarez, Michoacan, Morelia, and Monterrey.. well I think I still need to add the ones from Morelia but the rest I got !

You're right it was ALOT of hard work.. I made it sound easy yesterday and it is to some degree - if you know what you are doing. But there are ALOT of things that need to be done and alot of things that need to be obtained.

The emotional toll it takes on you is huge and the stress .. and fear.. and worry.. there are so many little things that can go wrong even simple errors that immigration makes with your paperwork. That is the main reason I haven't been around here so much. I turned in a 105 page packet including a brief, table of contents, and my 10 page long hardship letter and the rest evidence that took almost a year to collect. I did the job of a lawyer and more I will have to find a picture of the finished product to post. My friend's packet was lawyer-prepared and like 5 inches thick she had me scared that mine wouldn't be enough. I worked on it day and night for monthssss but in the end it is all worth it !

Until recently this process used to take 2-3 years. I have stories I could tell you even of recently - as an example one girl I know has been waiting 5 years for a decision for her husband to come home (their case is more complicated). You have to be careful too - Juarez is VERY dangerous. Someone was actually just killed last night at the hotel I was staying at about 5 rooms down from where I was. This definately hit me very close to home. This got me thinking. And I am glad this process is available but I feel I got lucky because my case was simple (as most Dreamer's would be) I have many friends who have not been so lucky or their cases were not so easy. I have a friend whose husband is banned for life because his parents made him enter the U.S. with a citizen's birth certificate when he was a child. There have been statements from officials saying that they will look at each case of this individually and that they take the age of the child into consideration. Once he came to his appointment they denied these statements ever having been made. He was raised in the U.S. and is actually an English teacher. At his appointment they even told him "you're exactly the kind of person we like to give visas to but unforunately we can't go by this person's statement and we have to give you the ban." There are still many things wrong with the system and this process only showed that to me with more clarity. I met some people who didn't deserve it and got it, and others who did deserve it and couldn't get it on a technicality.

I guess what I am trying to say (rambling) is that even with this process there are many things that are unjust and I could tell you more but I don't want to scare anyone off so we HAVE to keep fighting for our families and for fairness, dignity, and respect! The system is glaringly broken. This is the one thing that all of us (us AND our opponents) can agree on - even if we feel this way for different reasons. The wrong people are often let in and the right people are often kept out. I feel blessed to have 'won' but I feel guilty as well when I think of those I know and love who have been wronged.

Ok guys.. end rant.

And I am going to be an immigration lawyer. Because you don't even want to get me started on how many (thousands) of lawyers and notarios send people down to CDJ unprepared because they don't know what the heck they are doing.
