I didn't even know that Dreamact1982 had left. He was one of those who stayed up all night until everyone's mailboxes were full.

Is there anyone else in this forum who has had substantial contact and can continue the contact with Durbin or anyone in Durbin's office?

Anyone in the Chicago or DC area willing to take the extraordinary effort to re-establish contact on behalf of this forum by physically going to his office?

I've tried before, many times.... - all they tell me is to email him.. He has many different staffers ...I don't know about you guys... but I'm getting ready for it all over again - to take the DREAM to a whole new level... ! Obama or McCain... get prepared...
(of course I want OBAMA!)

Sibby, I'd be willing to take it up again in a couple months. I feel like now would be a weird time to take anything up with him as the elections are coming on fast, but maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, I'll be 9 months pregnant by the time the elections are over, so some have said I could make a very good visual impact walking into whatever offices talking about the craziness of our situation! I am not up for travel to DC or Springfield right now, but the Chicago office is definitely not a problem. Who is in that office, and what exactly would I try to accomplish there?

I had a meeting from Josh Bernstein from NILC a few weeks ago, when he visited the UCLA Labor Center. He said that Dream Act should be the primary focus for 2009, and that he had received reassurance from Durbin's office that the Dream Act was the one thing he wanted to commit to finishing "in his lifetime".

Durbin appears to be committed to pushing for the Dream Act early in 2009, and he has a lot of pull with the Obama camp, so I think it looks like an optimistic setting. Needless to say, we need to be ready because the right-wing is going to attempt to distort this issue once again.

Excellent news.

UndergroundMatias, can you keep posting regular updates as they occur from Josh Bernstein as he communicates with Durbin? But also be aware of posting exclusive information in public on this forum. We want no anti-immigration readers to be equipped with the information. If anything, PM those who might be interested who have the postings to prove they are real Dreamers.

Sounds good, Sibby. Right now it's all election news, but I'm sure we are going to have more updates once Barack gets elected

That is a sight for sore eyes. My gf (and me out of empathy and for our future), just like you and your loved ones, feel the immense strain of being stuck in limbo in the country you grew up in. I hope Josh Bernstein was right, and I hope Durbin honestly does try for DREAM in early 2009, and that it BECOMES LAW right then and there!
