The passage of DREAM this year or any time in the near future is looking extremely bleak right now. Yes congress returns on November 15 with a whole lot of other shit to do besides DREAM. The question is even if DREAM passes the senate in November or December what guarantee do we have that it's not gonna get stalled in the house, will the house pass the senate version as it is, will the house pass there own version, will it have to go to a conference committee for the two versions to be worked out etc. Mind you all this with really just 3-4 weeks before they are done for the year and the 111th congress. All we can do is hope for the best, but its really not looking good.

I think they are going to pass the senate vertion in the house!!!
They don't have the lugxury of amending the bill.

They have been passing the senate vertion on practically everything. They figured that if something this important goes to conference it might not get a chance to pass twice in the senate.

As we all know Republicans will be in charge of the House of Representatives starting in the 112th congress beginning on January 3, 2011 with 242+ seats. Make no mistake about it, if DREAM does not pass during this lame duck session starting on Monday we can all pack our bags.

But on the bright side of things:

I have to agree here, at least in the house, there are both republicans and democrats pushing for the DA even during the lame duck session.

In the senate, the republicans have been using their numbers to filibuster even bills that would make no sense to filibuster. They find that 9/11 victims are suffering for cancer and the republicans say no to a bill that would help them in unison, that really takes it a bit far out there.

I would hope that the DA pass this year, but I would not say that all hope is lost forever if it does not, as far as I can see they don't have a reasonable plan on how they will deport 12 million immigrants and now there are people coming up with a figure of 30 million, the prior figure costs just over a quarter trillion under the current cost per deportation, the latter figure.... that is just really too much money over decades, they have to come up with something more sensible and I don't see anything more sensible then providing a path to legalization to those that have not committed any crimes considered serious.
