Finally going to send my packet... I wish I had done it earlier since nobody seems to have been renewed yet, makes me nervous. Things came up that made my pockets pretty empty, but I'm not gonna wait anymore, I can't afford not to be able to work. Let's hope renewals are speedier.

Today I received a letter from the California DMV asking me to provide proof of my legal status. It says to mail a copy of my new EAD. The good news about this is that I don't have to pay to renew it. My DL/ID expire Sept 17...

What in the world...

They're sending different letters to different people.
I have to renew and pay $33, but they didn't ask me to bring in a copy of my new EAD. Mine expires 9/26.

I think its better if they don't ask for EAD. I believe once they renew it, its for the 4 years instead of when EAD expires.

I dont even have a renewal letter for my license. On the other hand, I received one for my ID. Then yesterday, I got a letter from them asking for proof of legal status...so maybe it's something like what you received. Mine says "limited time extension" on top of the letter. But I believe I didnt see anything that pertains to not having to pay a renewal fee.
Also, my license expires on the same day as yours.

Yes, but I think it's better for all of us to not go to the DMV until we have our new EADs in hand. That way, we don't have to risk having to come back at another time.
