Every mind is its own world, everyone thinks differently. I see your point, and what giving undocumented people "special" driving licences can signify. But then, I have to also disagree. Here's why:

Like many have been saying, it's a small step. We have to accept it. If we complaint and moan at everything that's not a full blown CIR or DA, they're eventually going to say, "Why bother?" And then we all get screwed even more. We have to come to a compromise, little as it may be, but then continue asking for more. "Thank for you for this! Yet, there's a lot more, so let's keep on talking, shall we?"

As a Californian, this is a step in the right direction. I want something, even for now, that's going make me feel safe on the roads, that will prove I can legally drive! I know that eventually, my residency will come, but until then; this will do. I'm not going to settle for just that, but it will do for the moment.

I'm thinking that these DL will have something on them that will say "This is not a valid ID for employment." Which is what the old DL had, right? I know my mom's has something like that. And, it would be foolish of them not allow the DL as a way to board planes. I can only imagine airline tickes would rise, as more people would travel to other states to visit family members. And since CA is out of money, so they say, the revenue from issueing DL to undocumented people would be pretty high.

I'm all for this law. And, if discrimination arises from this, well then, simply: I won't get one. Well I would, but just continue following traffic laws.

Finally, speaking of regressive. We've been on that path for a while now. Blaming illegal immigrants for all the nation's issues.

i might come on here as an idiot but for a moment you gotta acknowledge that we are not full citizens, the constitution is only meant to protect the citizens granted we love this country, but we can't start trying to claim full rights. in my opinion, anything that helps us out is good.

this thing is almost like a matricula, its an ID but it clearly marks us as different.
be grateful for what we can get.

whats wrong with branding felon's licenses? they did a crime and were convicted it should be known.

I'd much rather have the CA issued ID. Even if it says "Not valid..." for whatever reason, or has something else that distincts it from regular ID's. At least it will say CALIFORNIA at top and people won't give me as many weird looks as when I show my consulate as ID. It's embarrasing, at least for me.

Well i do not promote name calling ( at least not at the level you just used), so i can not agree with what you said about him, But he has veoted immigration related bills that were passed almost unanimously by the california legislature before.

That being said, the chances of Arnold vetoing such bill is high. However over the pass few months i have seen couple of youtube videos and news articles in which Arnold has talked positively of immigration reform and the need for one.

I have my fingers crossed, but i think, considering this is his last year in the office, he could have a change of heart and actually sign it. But again, fingers crossed.

So basically, i am just speculating.

A change of heart ? Believe me, these people's decision-making process has never involved hearts.

Right now we should all be grateful for what we can get for the moment being or at least until the DREAM ACT passes. I'm from cali and would love getting a license even if it does indeed label me as being different. I also think that it would be way better being able to drive without having to rely on public transportation. I really hope it passes!
