We need 60 votes to override a Republican filibuster. Al Franken is a Democrat who gets us that much closer to that number.

Pardon my ignorance, but doesnt Al Franken gives us the 60 seats that we needed?? Or am I wrong, if so how many democrats are currently sitting in the senate??

there are 60 democrats BUT there are such things as conservative democrats that might not rule in favor of CIR/DA

In theory, IF all 60 of them worked as a single entity they would be unstopable in passing legislation after legislation. You can just skip the debates and whatnot and go straight to a vote.
