Fingers-crossed everyone. Obama now, indeed, has more political capital. Let's just hope he uses it on CIR and puts actions behind his comforting rhetoric.

I think Obama might not struggle with Boehner so much on immigration. Boehner looks like he is willing to compromise on important issues. Let's see what happens. It seems like CIR is slowly gainning momentum. Obama just needs to show the same amount of determination/leadership on immigration like that the determination he demonstrated on Health Care and Federal Spending.

I don't thinks so. Even if he gets "political capital" he will waste it on something non-immigration related. This will only make him more confident that he can go on ignoring immigration reform.

Oh crap. I see your point. "Why worry so much about the latino vote when Osama's death will allow me to get more votes from other groups"?

I hope this doesn't happen. That would be extremely cynical. Let's see what happens. I just hope all of us become legal as soon as possible.

Its funny how three days ago you were calling him an "idiot," emphasizing on how he needed the latino vote with "No Reform, No Vote." Now you are worrying he will just shrug us off. I find that more cynical than the possible actions Obama could do. Now that this happened, he doesn't even need to appeal to us, Latinos will vote for him anyways because he is a great president and because the right wants us to prosecuted and deported.

9/11 made it harder to get into the country as an immigrant and a tourist. My cousin has told me that before 9/11 you could cross the border just by saying "Yeah, I am just going to Best Buy for a new TV" and they would let you in and only check for your visa sometimes.

The threat of terrorism - like other murderous, criminal activity- is always present here as well as in other countries. Many of the voters to whom "national security" is the top issue are misguided nationalists who also believe that President Obama is a foreigner. Right-wing conservatives and Republicans are not going to flip their vote for him in the next election because Bin Laden is now dead.

For the millions of Hispanic voters in mixed-status families, with undocumented parents, siblings, significant others, friends, etc; immigration reform will still be very much a top issue.
