my lawyer actually said (not sure how true it is), but he said even with the ban, if you drive across US border (as opposed to flying) once you become a canadian citizen...that they don't really check for bans or anything...

Yea one of my aunts told me about that. If you exit to your home country, your actualy 10 year ban will be for US but once you move to Canada and eventually gain citizenship from Canada there wont be a ban for you from Canada to US lol idk if that made sense.

Yea I guess it isnt so bad. I'll most likely be doing the same thing as you, in about a year or so haha.

Have you thought abt maybe waiting to finnish 2011 here then go back to your country?

I mean i know this sounds so cliche but talks of immigration is brewing up again.

oh yea. I'll take a year to hope for DA to pass..=) and apply to various places in the meanwhile..explore my options..in the US, homeland, and Canada. Someone also mentioned applying for masters in nursing, but I'm soo tired of going to school, and coming up with the funds to pay for school. But that's also worth looking into. Has anyone been successful in getting into such a program (masters in nursing) in ny area?

Cool to see other nurses on here! I just graduated from nursing school, currently working on doing the paper work for my nclex (in Tx). @stilldreaming how did you get your fingerprints done for the test? there telling me since i dont have ss i cant do the printing electronically, that i have to go to sheriff or police and get them done with them but i dont know if its wise to walk into a police station or sheriffs station being undocumented. I don't know about NY but here in texas the only masters(in nursing) you can apply for without clinical experince is nursing managment

sheriff's office! yikes! I'm not sure if I could recommend doing that. Here in NY, you have to register to take the test at a Pearson center and also register with the state board of nursing. You then get an authorization to test (ATT) that allows you to choose a test date and sit for the exam at the Pearson center. On the day of your exam, you walk with your ATT (just a sheet of paper), they compare it with your ID, and photograph and fingerprint you. That's it. It may be different in Texas, I'm not sure.

I found this post by nextlover that talks about some type of livescan/fingerprinting requirement. Is that similar to what you have to do? In the post, (s)he mentions a friend who lacked a ssn, and was assisted by the dean of the nursing school in attaining fingerprinting. (S)he recommends not giving up, and trying different places. Maybe someone else from Tx has info on this process.

In any case, congratulations of graduating! Do you have any ideas of what your next step is going to be, post sitting for the nclex?
