Are you talking about SSA or employers?

E-verify manual says you need a SSN to be verified. But, you can work if you applied for the number. They'll E-verify once you receive it. http://www.uscis.gov/USCIS/Verificat...loyer_comp.pdf

Newly hired employees must complete Section 1 of Form I-9 in its entirety. Providing a Social Security number on Form I-9 is usually voluntary; however, a Social Security number is required by employers who use E-Verify. Therefore all newly hired employees, including seasonal, temporary and rehires MUST have a Social Security number.

A case cannot be created in E-Verify without a Social Security number. If a newly hired employee has applied for but has not yet received his or her Social Security number (i.e., if he or she is a newly arrived immigrant), make a note on the employee’s Form I-9 and set it aside. The employee should be allowed to continue to work. You must create a case in E-Verify using the employee’s Social Security number as soon as the Social Security number is available.

There you have it. They'll allow you to work and set aside your I9 until you have your social.

Well it says that in the meanwhile you can work so uhm yeah do it!

That's weird. I remember taking my mom to SSA last year when she got her work permit before her green card and from what I remember she got her social card like a week after we went. It was super quick. And we went to the SSA right after she received her work permit too. I know her case wasn't DACA but I assume it would all be the same time table. I mean if you're already approved then what else do they need to check for? I hope it doesn't take that long to get your card.
