You're right, perhaps you are not ready to hear why legal American citizens don't support your cause. Perhaps you don't want to start to discuss the things that can be done so that one day you can earn the full benefits of legal citizenship.

You idiot you know why people dont come here legally? is because they cant
this is how it works in mexico only people with money can apply for a green card
if all people could come here legally half of Latin America would be here already half of Africa would be their way too.

I have a Masters degree in Engineering and I am opposed to the DREAM act or any bill that gives rights to people who are in the United States illegally.

This is not a matter of who is educated and who is not, it is a matter of being a nation with borders as well as being a nation of laws. Most Americans oppose granting amnesty to those who have broken our laws. In addition, we are disgusted with our government who encourages the behavior by not enforcing the law.

I've read a lot of posts within this forum and it seems to me that people are focusing on what rights and "freebies" they will be granted if this should become law. Would you feel so strongly about this if you were asked to finance illigal immigrants from Somalia or the Sudan? I sincerely doubt it. Imagine how *legal* Americans feel about financing you! Then perhaps you can understand the push-back by the American people.

Pablo

PS: I have my fireproof suit handy...
we're not asking for any freebies. We're not asking for americans to finance us. We're only asking for a chance to contribute to the only society we've known in the past years.

i'm sorry you feel the way you do.
That's an interesting statement when I've seen quite a few posts that are so eager to discuss the fact that they would get in-state tuition (a reduction of cost).

The fact that this is the only society that you have known is regretable in some ways because it is not your fault, but rather the fault of your parents. However please do not expect legal Americans to feel sympathetic for your cause when your parents had every opportunity to come here legally.

Pablo
Do you really think it is that easy to come legally? As I stated previously, I am a U.S. CITIZEN and I can not fix my own husband's status. How is someone OUTSIDE the country supposed to crack into this locked shell if a citizen can't even do anything? Do you realize how hard it is to come to this country legally? How many thousands of dollars it takes? How many corrupt governments there are in foreign countries that give mis-information about immigrating? If we have thousands of corrupt immigration lawyers in THIS country, the best country in the world, can you imagine what it is like in another country to find a trustworthy lawyer who won't scam you out of thousands ?? If you came here legally either you, or your parents, got lucky, were upper middle class in your country of origin, or come from a country that is extremely easy to immigrate from. Again, you could just have easily been born into the situation of a Dream Act student.

Can we keep the name calling down to a minimum here and have a civilized discussion? It would be nice to see where the other side is coming from for once.

Yes, I was just going to say that. Do people really believe that illegals like being illegal? lol... I do not support illegal immigration in any way, but do people know what the requirements are to move here legally?

Fair enough, but do note that many of us do not get in state tuition, and for those that do many of us already pay one way taxes into a system without expecting anything in return.

Another thing to note is that many, hell all of us here were brought here against our will, on average mostly as infants. What <15 year old kid has any say in their parents' decisions anyways? That's what DREAM is trying to acomplish, kids are being unfairly penalized for somebody else's mistakes here. After all the tax dollars that have went into our education you're telling me you don't want us in the economy pool anymore? THAT is what doesn't make any sense to me. You're basicaly condoning outsourcing of local brainpower to other countries, without receiving anything back in return. After living your whole life in the only country you know and call home, probably speaking english as the only language too, you expect people to get up and move back to a place they have no recolection of, don't even know the language or have any relatives or family to come "back" to? Comon man, lets get real here.
I realize that many of you did not have a choice whether or not to come here. I also know that in many cases your parents simply wanted you to have a better life by bringing you here. Had the tables been turned, I'm sure that my parents would have done the same.

The problem with this bill is that it not only adresses the legal status of the children, it also affect the legal status of the parents and does not address the problem at the border. This type of blanket amnesty bill only encourages further illegal immigration.

In my opinion, we as a country need to fix the sieve that is our border and get it under control before we even discuss any type of amnesty program. Once the borders are secured, then we can begin to discuss situations such as yours. I have no doubts that there are many people in your situation who are and will continue to be productive members of society.

String is right. As much as we oppose his/her views and beliefs, he has the right to voice his/her opinion. We can't resort to what we complain about when we go to the oppositions' site and try to have an educated debate, and in turn get nothing but racial and stereotypical remarks in return.
