Other federal or state attorneys general can intervene and defend DACA. Even groups like the ACLU can intervene.

Thing is, a judge has to decide first whether Paxton's lawsuit has merit. If it doesn't, then the lawsuit is thrown out. If the judges deems the lawsuit has merit, then we begin a long wait for the case to be heard.

Even if the lawsuit is filed on September 5th, DACA will not end on September 5th. We'd have upwards of a year or more as litigation goes on. By that time, Congress would have at the very least passed the BRIDGE Act, making Paxton's lawsuit moot at that point.

Does litigation really take that long? Can they put an injunction on DACA during that time? Or can that only happen once the case is heard?

You're right...that's assuming Trump doesn't act and lets the lawsuit go through. if he does act however..it can definitely end tomorrow or soon unfortunately. It is after all only an executive order.
