It's not really that extreme. ICE was created post 9/11 in a moment when the country was freaking out. Its history isn't really that long. Abolishing an agency that was created in a moment of fear is not that extreme.

The thing is that many on the right want to make it seem extreme, even though many of these conservatives, particularly the older ones, they lived the majority of their life in an America where ICE did not exist.

What about the INS? Wasn't that basically the same thing?

Yes and no. INS was a larger agency that used to encompass what is now USCIS, ICE, and at least one other agency that I am blanking on right now. So yes, INS had many of the functions that ICE now has.

ICE was born in 2003, and "Congress granted ICE a unique combination of civil and criminal authorities to better protect national security and public safety in answer to the tragic events on 9/11. Leveraging those authorities, ICE's primary mission is to promote homeland security and public safety through the criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs, trade and immigration." (ice.gov)

Essentially undocumented immigrants were lumped together with terrorists, and an organization was creted to deal with us accordingly.

Looks like customs inspectors and the immigration officers from INS were merged into a new office to create ICE.

Fake news from 2MoreYears. Clearly he's a russian bot, probably pals with putin.

Anyhow enough nonsense,

It's impressive for me to hear about my fellow countrymen returning because the economic situation. However the real question is how long will the good times last, and can the country handle the return of 40+ Million or so of its countrymen looking for work. I hope AMLO can turn our homeland around, god bless and protect that man from enemies both foreign and domestic. I am willing to return to my homeland and pick up a rifle in defense of the homeland.

I know we wouldn't of left Mexico if there were jobs and good pay.
