U are so lucky, I also applied Monday and I so called today. The lady I spoke to was a little rude and said I had to wait 20 days and that in the meantime I should let them do their job. She also mention that she couldn't give me any information over the phone and that instead of wasting time I should go to the office in person.

Ok talked to the SSA representative person and she said the following:

1. The 10 day wait is 10 CALENDAR DAYS!

2. If you have a "Not valid for work" card you can use it to apply for jobs as long as you let the employer know that you are in the process of updating your card!

Hopefully that helps some of you!

Wooo Hoo! Hold on a minute is it 10 calendar days since you got approved or 10 calendar days since the receipt of the EAD card?

I was actually trying to speak with someone in English first but the wait was over 10 minutes. So I decided to call in Spanish instead and I didn't wait at all and the lady was pretty nice. She asked me when my application was approved, full name and mother's last name. She also mentioned that the reference number would not work to give out information.

If you speak Spanish or know someone that does, try giving them a call again.

Approved. The date your card arrives is irrelevant.

From the date of approval on the EAD card.

I am going to the SSA office as I type this. It's down the street from the university I attend. My case was approved on Sep 26 so I waited a few days to apply. I hope I have a good experience, but it seems like its a hit or miss with the folks working there. Anything I should look out for?
