To answer your initial question, treating someone else differently based off of race makes someone a racist. This doesn't always mean being mean, it can also mean favoring a race over others.

I'm brown and very Hispanic looking too my friend. Listen I'm not saying you need to become an Aryan to be on tv. Back to the question about being a senator, I would vote in favor of it because I think things through and through then make a decision. But we do have to give them something they can sell! Again nothing against you personally but the image is burned into their heads, it's not our fault but if we want to come out on top then we have to change something. Maybe my opinion isn't the best, but I'll move aside and let someone else take the spotlight if in the end I'm getting end result.

He didn't treat them differently nor was he mean. He made an observation.

Your question about me passing the dream Act if I could is a defensive question. I understand I offended you that's no my intent here. My intent is to bring out the obvious and the taboo subjects nobody is willing to address...

I'm a PR Major guys and i'm simply seeing things threw those eyes..

jdmdelsol97 is right so what if we give them a horse and pony show as long as we get "that kid is just like my kid!! How could this happen to them in America? reactions and help the Dream Act pass.

elcompa001 If you owned a company and were trying to sell an idea or product to let say the American People, or China, African or Latin America wouldn't you want the right person for the job??? That's why tv commercials use certain races to target certain demographics.

It's nothing against you its about having the right person for the job.

I knew exactly what you meant from your original post I'm doin PR and communications at my school too. You have to appeal to people to get what you desire. You can't do everything that turns a person off and expect them to do what you asked of them. Again I hate to say it especially because I'm not super white, blonde with blue eyes, but we have to stop kidding our selves and come back to reality and realize how our society works. We got dealt a crappy hand but we can play it to our advantage if we do it right.

I really think it is more about acting "American" than it is about looking it. It is possible to assimilate into American culture yet remain tied to your ethnic roots. Speaking English well and following American cultural norms does not make you forget your country and its culture.

I think the original post was talking about having someone who has assimilated well into American culture represent the DREAM act as this will show that we are definitely Americans. Many wrongly believe that we are not loyal to this country because some of us speak with an accent or still celebrate holidays associated with our country. I don't think this will change if we choose someone with an accent to represent us. Sadly, racist beliefs will be held by them unless an immigrant saves their life or something.

So, I think your post was recognizing racism and ways of working around it. I don't know if you are racist or not. Everyone forms generalizations so most of us are a little racist even if we don't recognize it. But I think the more important point in your post was to be able to "sell" our effort. That sounds bad but it's the way things work here.

I hate dirty Mexicans with dirty accents. They look and sound like something out of a Fox immigration segment.

I'm not a racist at all. I see myself more American the Uruguayan that's for damn sure. But yes it's how things work in this world, so we have to make it work in our favor.

I came here when I was 14 some 14 years ago. And I don't believe I have an accent. And also all my American friends even friends of my family (older folks, Americans) fully accept me into the community. And I live in Tucson AZ! They even go on as to say that I should have the rights instead of other Americans that don't appreciate them as much as I would. And my appearance is the same as any other people from Mexico that come during vacation time.

BTW you can't just judge someone on when they first came into the US. When I went into high school I didn't know any English at all, and when I graduated high school I graduated with 4 REGULAR English credits. It took a lot of effort on my part and some extra summer classes but I was proud I did it. I was even placed AHEAD of some American students in English classes when I got to college.

Also having an accent doesn't matter at all if two persons can understand each other.

I think you're discriminating too much LifeDreamer, What's it gonna be next? Only blue eyed, blonde, light skinned people? Then you'd be out you know! And it would diminish the point of the Dream Act, where the majority of its would-be beneficiaries ARE NOT immigrants from Europe.

Sigh, this is also part of the reason why the Dream Act hasn't passed...
