Americans are quick to push religious freedom for certain religions (Christianity, Judaism) and not for others

People were saying that wasn't fair and that the kids should be allowed to do that since it's really no harm. I started to think would they also feel the same way if let's say a Muslim wanted to do something similar?

I agree with you. Those Christians should be allowed to pray, on their knees if they want to, out loud mumbling prayer if they want to (as long as they don't interfere with kids reading in the library).

On the other hand, the Muslims should be able to pray on their knees 3 times a day in the school grounds. Also Satanists should pray to their Satanic Flying God in public, in front of Christians if they want to and there should be no problem. Because if the Christian conservatives have a problem with this, they are going against their own ideology.

Exactly. By the way the main reason why I don't support prayers in school is because kids go to school to learn not pray. lol And because not everyone will be treated equally if that ever happens.

Also, this nation was not founded on religion. This nation was founded under the Freedom of Religion by Pilgrims who consist of Protestants, Catholics and other religious and cultural minorities who fled from England to avoid religious persecution.
Freedom OF religion is not the same as freedom FROM religion.

are you really trying to get into the Establishment Clause vs. the Free Exercise Clause of the 1st amendment?

this debate has been going on for decades by the constitutional scholars and it wont be settled in this thread lol

BA in economics and Spanish. My views are mostly liberal but sometimes lean towards moderate.

I see that religion has seeped to this thread as well... As a person coming from a country without a majority religion (gasp) and without any social discrimination to nonreligious people (hold me), American politics often seem like a farce, especially when it starts to depend SO MUCH on a personal choice like religion. Just my two cents.

I think what's more terrifying is that we haven't been able to entirely take God out of politics in 230+ years.

i have no problem with people who have their faith.

the problem arises when the personal belief system of politicians starts to affect the political decision that they make, which will have impact on all people, that includes religious and non-religious people..

so if you're a politician and have a religious, keep it to yourself, i don't want to be affected by it, u know what im saying
