Have you ever been woken up by someone's voice or even a sound? You know how it seems to sound louder than normal? It's because you're other senses (sight, etc) aren't primed to optimal.

And like hooligan111988 mentioned, I too am somewhat able to control my sleep paralysis, or at least control when to break free from it. Also, when I was younger and had nightmares, I would be able to recognize I was dreaming and wake myself up.

Now, I never experienced lucid dreaming and I'm not even sure that's a real phenomena.
Lucid dreaming is very real. It happens to me once in a while. Its pretty cool because once you realize you are dreaming you can do pretty much whatever you want. I remember in one of my dreams as soon as I realized I was dreaming I started flying. In another one, I just straight up got in a fist fight with random people lol

I am actually very very able to induce a lucid dreaming myself. It's an amazing feeling. Unfortunately, I wake up within 5-10 seconds of realizing its a dream but trust me those 5-10 seconds feel like 5-10 minutes. Once I realized I was in a dream and proceeded to start driving a car fully aware of what's going on.

this thread interests me but also freaks me out too lol. i wont read it at night time haha. the first time i read it was a night and now the past 2 nights ive been kind of scared lol and although ive never experienced sleep paralysis i'm afraid it is going to happen to me.
i didnt know it was called lucid dreaming, but there has been plenty of times where I realized I was dreaming and I would be able to control what I was doing. If i told you guys what I would usually do when this happened, you would laugh at me lol.
i had a scary experience one time when I was little and thought I saw a ghost (looked like a man) staring and smiling at me while I was sleeping. of course I could have been dreaming, I really have no idea. the weird thing is, the next day my sister let me know that she got a call that night from a family friend letting her know that someone who my uncle knew (who was living with us at that time) had passed away.

also when i was little, I thought i saw a UFO. til this day i dont know if i really saw it, i tell myself my mind was playing tricks on me. it was still light out and i wasn't sleeping or anything, i had seen it when i was passing by the window...it looked like your typical UFO and it had round lights on it and the middle or bottom part with the lights was like spinning as it moved through the air. idk it was weird.....

Wow I can't helped but be freaked it about some of the similarities with the stories here especially the shadowy figure. Let me just say I started reading this thread last night and stopped after the first few posts bc I'm such a scaredy cat based on what I've experienced myself.

Anyway this shadowy figure, I saw this once while I was sleeping alone(I share a room with my sibling) and I opened my eyes and saw this black shadowy figure and started to scream for my mom. As soon as she opened the door it disappeared. I used to believe that these things happen to people because they've seen it on tv or something but as far as I was at the time concerned ghosts where always of a white color so it baffled me why this figure was black. It was even freaking more scary when I was reading some site where ppl were talking about these sort of things and there were some of them who mentioned that shadowy figure.

I also wanted to say that I've experienced sleep paralysis since I was about 8. It happens to me numerous times a yr and as strange as it sounds its one of the things that keeps me personally from denying there is a God(I only mentioned that bc I've been in a 3 yr struggle with my faith). When I was younger before I ever experienced sleep paralysis my mom told me out of the blue if I ever felt like something was holding me down to say The Lords Prayer and everytine I've experienced sleep paralysis and i say the Lords Prayer it goes away. It could be that I have so much faith in it working that it does work but every time I start saying it, it goes away. I've tried not saying it and the paralysis last so much longer. Also the longer it last I start having these confusing dreams and the dreams always consists of me still being in sleep paralysis which makes it seem real bc in the dreams I'm always confused as to whether or not I'm dreaming or if I'm up.

Lucid dreaming is seriously the best experience ever. The first time when I "woke up" inside my dream, it was startling. Although I vaguely remember the feeling, I can tell you it felt amazingly real. It feels as if you're truly looking through your real eyes and have full control over what you do. The first time I lucid dreamt, I was standing on this sidewalk next to a building in a city. I literally just ran up the side of the building and half flew to the top. Like a boss.

Regarding paranormal experiences, there was this time (I was with my family) in one of rooms where the door, which was shut completely, randomly started to creak back and forth for a couple seconds as if somebody had taken the handle and was trying to shake open the door. There was nobody else in the house (all my family members were together in the room). And no, it was not the wind; the windows were shut.
