The original purpose of the act was so that we could finish our education, and/or join the military to become contributing members of American society. Not to say some of you guys don't already, but this was and continues to be the main reason for it...

Sometimes I tell my USC boyfriend that I'm afraid immigration reform will never happen. He'd tell me that I'll be okay because we're getting married after we both graduate.

But you know what, I would rather get my citizenship through the DREAM Act for the exact reason you mentioned. I want to say that I earned my right to stay in this country legally. I was given my citizenship because the government saw that I have important things to contribute to the country.

There's nothing wrong with getting legalized through a spouse, but I think there's just more personal pride attached to getting papers through the DREAM Act.
