Our real concern if med schools and whatnot will allow us in with a RPI status in the first place. Then we can worry about the money. Some dreamers entering programs have gotten money buy explaining their issue with them.

We are hoping RPI for the purpose of entering med schools and schools a like is enough. That is it
Yep, the whole AMCAS system would have to be changed and another category would have to be added so there isnt discrimination (there is now).

I think there might be a chance, that after the bill is debated and amended, the RPI will actually become Conditional. I'm hoping for all of us. There is no need to call it RPI if it is basically CPR. Unless its just to appease Republicans. But even then it's unnecessary. If they don't want us to get any benefits or aid, that can just add that in there anyway.

Giving us conditional greencards won't hurt anyone. Financial aid is an investment for the gov because we will use the money to get higher education which means higher salary and more taxes the government will make from us. It's a win win on both side but it is essential for my and most dreamers life because we want to follow are dreams and go to college and with tuition costs it's almost impossible. And also we r extremly less likely to be accepted in very competitvr schools because we will be provisional stay not permenent residents, even though we'll be citizens in 5years.

Also there is a section that says the bill will repeal the section of the 1996 bill that prohibits state financial aid. http://www.schumer.senate.gov/forms/immigration.pdf pg 117
The old DREAM Act had a section that stipulated available aid, which the current senate bill lacks.

I understand this is a compromise bill and not everyone will be completely satisfied but now is not the time for complacency, not when the bill is still soft and transformable. This legislation has been a LONG time coming and we stand on the shoulders of activist giants that have worked arduously for what is now an unstoppable bill in motion.

If RPI status stops us from our goals, now that we're so close, whether that is a competitive university, medical, law or graduate school, then we have failed. "It is never too late to be who you might have been." ~George Eliot

section 505

Quote:
an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident

so with this we can get in state tuition

I'm not sure that it can be achieved with the bill attached to CIR. I think is worth advocating for because you want to start big and then negotiate to narrow it down. Not sure that you can get full federal aid. Feasible might be loans because you have to pay those back and work study and that is what the 2007 bill had.

I'd like to sit here and explain to OP that the reason why its been so hard to get anything immigration related passed is cause the government are afraid of the financial strain that the country can't afford being brought on by undocumented but I have a feeling it would go through one ear and out the other lol..

Use your damn foreheads people.. IF IT WAS UP TO THE GOVERNMENT THEY WOULD LEGALIZE ANYONE AND EVERYONE!!! The reason why they don't cause they don't want people to abuse the social safety nets and federal funding!!!!! Get it through your damn heads!!! Citizens/PRs = revenue for the govt, but also a risk of the gov having to support them!! My man.. Go get a job.. Save up.. And then use it for school.. You can earn $15-50K a year EASILY doing a low skilled job.. Work one year and you'll be set to put yourself through school.. It's not rocket science.
