The average Mexican Mestizo did NOT descend from the Aztecs. I mean, if their roots were native to the DF area, then maybe yes but there are 60+ different Native ethnicities each with their distinct culture and languages that are not Aztec. The Navajo, Apache, Yaquis and South Western indios don't want anything to do with Mexico nor associate with them.

Mexico's identity is literally based on the Spanish cleansing the Indigenous population and forcing them to adopt a Gypsy Catholic culture. Nothing noble about that. I also very much doubt that you descended directly from the Aztecs. In fact, most Mexicans descended from the tribes that were brutalized by them. Stockholm syndrome at its finest. The Spanish really succeeded in convincing Latinos to hate their indigenous roots and that mentality still exists today.

Mexico City is hugely overpopulated and the living standards are subpar. They're prone to natural disasters, the infrastructure is shit-tier, nearly 75% of its citizens live in the slums, their water supply is dwindling, the air quality is horrible, etc. Sao Paolo, Brazil easily defeats Mexico City in terms of living standards and it's literally Latin America's financial center. Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina also surpass Mexico City in these areas as well.

There is an abundant amount of Native American civilizations that are superior to the Aztcecs. The Incan empire of Peru were experts at agriculture and there civilization was seen visible in about 5 countries covering 700,000 square miles. Their communication system was way more complex than the Aztecs and built sophisticated advanced cities. They had a political and tax system and built canals for trading. The Mayan civilization of Central America still exists as of today and they aren't just some phony mutts that pretend be their descendants like the modern day self-proclaimed Aztecs. They were more knowledgeable in the fields of astronomy and mathematics than the Aztecs. I can name more Native civilizations that are superior to the Aztecs as well.

I admire Mexico and their native population excluding the bloodthirsty Aztecs. Yes, although the pretexts were a tad bit shady, the territories were sparsely populated by tribes and Spanish settlers that didn't associate with Mexicans. Back in that era, there were many other states that fought to secede from Mexico like Yucatan but didn't succeed.

On another note, the "indios" that were shown in the video were not Native Mexicans. They were Mestizos or Triracials from Southern Mexico. I'm tired of people associating these mutts with actual Native Indians. They think that the average Mexican indio looks like George Lopez when the dude is only 33% Native American.

The native population of Mexico was forcibly converted by the Catholic church. They were literally robbed from their original customs and culture and they did it in a cruel, quasi-enslaving way.

Today, racism against Natives very much exist in Mexico and practically any other American country except for Bolivia and Paraguay, even good ol' Canada abuses their Native population. In Latin American culture, Indio is used as an insult. Many of them are denied access to opportunities and are rejected by employers. They don't even speak Spanish and although Mexico has an extensive list of languages spoken, they only issue voting ballots in Spanish. 80% of Indios live in extreme poverty in Mexico (despite this, they're peaceful) and there is no government intervention made to invest in these communities. It wasn't until the Zapatista movement (although it's very far left), that the natives of Chiapas had a voice.

According to a study conducted by The Mexican National Council to Prevent Discrimination, 55% of Mexican citizens are aware that racial discrimination exists, 20% of Mexicans said they were uncomfortable with their skin color and in another study conducted by UNAm, 47% of Mexicans were aware that Natives had limited opportunities to jobs compared to other racial groups and 72% agreed that racism does in fact exist in Mexico.
