I have hear of cases on tv where illegals who have completed their courses were denied a diploma.

Is this a problem? I always thought that if you are going to the college and are completing your requirements, you should be able to get the degree/diploma? Is this the case for illegals or does it vary from state to state? I just want to make sure that this won't be another problem on top of everything else.

I graduated undocumented in Tx and have not heard of this except if they could not fulfill an internship requirement.

No diploma then. People in the nursing field i think have to take some test in order to get licensed/accredited, but if you don't have a social you simply just can't take it and end up diplomaless.

For the most part it really depends on your major and/or school, so you yung'uns take that into consideration when applying.

If I get into any of the colleges I applied to it'll probably be a minimum of 30k a year. I've applied to the likes of Brown, NYU, Tufts and a few other selective liberal arts schools and universities. I plan to pay it with loans if I can get any, but if I can't then I'll rely on some of my wealthier uncles for some help.

For computer science, is this ussually a problem?

Do all internships require a social--what if they are not paid?

EDIT: I checked, and there is no mention of internship, so I think I am safe.

My community college required us to either do an internship or take a project seminar. Basically a self study class where you write a relatively large sized program, in cobol... But once i transferred to uni it's been smooth sailing so far, all i have left is just your regular classes so I don't see a whole lot of trouble in that department.

Also if you can afford it head straight for a university, the level of education quality is far better than a community college can provide and you won't get fucked over when transferring your credits.

I am already on my second year at a university, but that never crossed my mind. Aren't there unpaid internships that don't require a social? Well, I guess most require you to prove residence or legal status...

There are unpaid internships out there, you just have to look hard for them. I am currently doing an internship for a lady who started her own business 5 years ago, but just incorporated it and she needs help with tax forms and financial statements and that's what I try to do for her. It's unpaid, I don't have a SSN and she didn't ask for any proof of legal residency.

I mentioned this in another thread, but if your university has an eRecruiting Experience program set up, you can find internships that way. Just look at the career site for your school.
