No. Most times, they accept ITINs if you don't have a SSN. I just received my Capital One card in the mail today and I put down my ITIN. The most they can do is deny you.

Can you still get one of those Credit Cards online?

I tried Capital One using my ITIN-got denied.
I tried BoA and it immediately asks you if you're a citizen or PR so i gave up.
I tried Chase using my ITIN-when I entered it an error popped up saying that the first 3 digits of my SS# > 799.

Don't get a credit card, get a bank account and use the debit card as a credit cards online or anywhere you need to make purchases. Also you can walk in to a bank like chase and apply for a bank account. It's always better to stay free of debt! BTW, if you really need one...i guess try also citibank...

You need a CC for a lot of things, like renting a room at specific hotels, renting equipment, not to mention establishing a good credit history so you can actually buy things once you adjust your status. If you use a debit card at a hotel, they can put a hold on your card up to $1000 at some places; first of all it I don't always have that much in my checking account and second the hold will not allow me to withdraw any money that might make my balance fall below a $1000. Also a CC is much better in terms of insurance because you can always dispute charges when you know you're in the right.

Yes, you can.

i have total of 3 credit cards and 2 of them are from citicards and 1 from capitalone.

I recommend CitiCards!! they usually give a huge credit =D (huge debt for you)

capital one is not so great =X

I swear I will never understand the ITIN rules and application process. Can you still get one if you don't currently work? I still don't understand how you apply for one using a saving account as a reason. can someone please clear this up for me?

*You open a saving account in a bank and you tell them that you have no ITIN or SSN and you'll get an ITIN soon.

*You get a bank statement of your saving account signed by the bank.

*You send tax return application and attach your saving account's statement and tell them that you need an ITIN so you could pay taxes on the interest that you will get from the money you have in your saving account.

You'll need to forms on ID if I'm right, but don't send the original documents, send copies and go to a notary if needed.
