I know that people are sad at losing one member, but I think Nick seems like an objective guy who simply wants to enforce rules he's set for the forum. Efforts to make Dream happen comes from a lot of people, not just quaker, although I do appreciate all his hard work.

I want to know the reason why he banned quaker though. I think Nick should write an explanation and I'm sure that it's justified, somehow. I don't believe that he banned quaker out of the blue because that doesn't seem fair. Just wait for him to explain it, guys.

Quaker is one of the most active, consistent, well-behaved members of the coalition that is working in various ways to get the DREAM Act passed this year. Without him, the national movement wouldn't really get anywhere since he does some of the most important ground work like building a database of dream act supporters and allies, connecting students to groups, sending out advocacy packets to groups that need help.

You are shooting yourself in the foot here Nick, if you really care about pro-migrant work.
We don't need him at DAP, we will hire a day-laborer at the Homedepot to do his job. It will be much more cheaper

We need to set a date and call a meeting of all members, mods and admin in the chat room to discuss this issue and how we are moving forward as a organization to DREAM pass once and for all this year.

I want DREAM just as much as everyone here does. I've been advocating DREAM in my own terms, in my own way. I come to this forum for information and every time I can, I contribute by sharing what I know as well. Before I felt like this forum was the place I could come to and feel like I fit in, but it just doesn't feel like that anymore.

Anywho, I do hope Nick gives a reasonable explanation for the ban and if not, I hope we can make it without quaker.
Thank You for that information. I know that it feels like some of us are complete snobs. It is just hard because this is writing and information and logic are more important than emotion which is often found only with face to face communication. I am sorry if someone has ever made you feel less than valuable. Don't feel bad, the man of the hour, Quaker got also many red dots. I was going to say that Ianus was the only one without bitter battles but nay, I just remember him getting hit by that truck too.

Also, in general people debate and argue in this site thus, every time someone says something, someone else does not agree and gets burn. I am in no way saying that your point is without merits.

It is nice because although many debate what they want DAP to be, it is clear that for many, DAP is what you say, a place to get information and give information. You promote the dream act else where and this is only a compliment to your already busy life. I don't see why it should be otherwise. Still, if each member gives at least once per month a post or thread about their own local efforts and/or help if possible, that will be pretty sweet. It would solve 99% of all the frustration many members feel about the site.

It would also make us look better, sharp, defined and powerful. Because if every member is doing something else outside DAP to promote the Dream Act, guest what? we are better and sharper and more powerful than what we are portraying. Our efforts ought not to be hide but showcase not only for ourselves but for every new member that comes.

Well, I know that no one likes to thank anyone because we are supposed to do this for the ethics and not pride. Thank You for all the work you are doing to promote the Dream Act in your own terms. Keeps is on the loop of your efforts, please.

I agree with you completely. One of the biggest turnoffs on this forum are the display of attitudes by certain people. It is discouraging. I hope that we can get past that and really focus on what we're here to do in the first place. I think every member is valuable to Dream's cause. We can't afford to lose members just because people decide to attack one another. Small things like red dots and negative comments just gets the in way of what we're trying to accomplish. I wouldn't even want to recommend this site to friends anymore because the last time I did, a member left him red dots and bad comments when he was asking for information pertaining to college applications. If these issues can be resolved, I think we will have a more productive forum.

One person cannot be held responsible for the progress of the DREAM Act and this site. We are all responsible whether it be administrating, moderating, posting, calling, emailing, spreading the word, lobbying, etc. Nick has created the site for us and we should be grateful that he took the time to do that, otherwise many of us would still be unaware of a whole slew of things DREAM related. He created the site to facilitate the discussion about DREAM and hoped that leaders would emerge. Quaker is one of them as well as a handful of other members. The site does need updating, true, and we're working on that as we speak, however, that shouldn't compromise our original goal of getting DREAM to pass. Quaker has given us plenty to do and we should be doing it whether he is here or not. There may be disagreements on the right way to go about passing DREAM, but we all agree that we want the same end result.

What Optimist has been saying is true and if every person on this forum does at least one productive thing a month (it of course would be better to be more involved), we would be that much closer to our goal.

I agree with hrvatica. We shouldn't overestimate our importance, and people shouldn't fall prey to believing their own hype. Calls by staffers and everything have activists as the target audience in mind, and of course they're going to pump up egos.

I know it's hard to wait, but at the end of the day, we have to wait for Sen. Durbin to put the Dream Act on the floor at the optimal time for passage. Sen. Durbin is an expert legislator, and he knows what he's doing.

That said, we are the foot soldiers, and our job is to provide support to Sen. Durbin. We can't convince every representative and Senator - no matter how many sob stories we send their way especially towards the Republicans because immigration is a hot button issue and most Republicans will listen to their conservative base more than immigration activists - but we are really close to having enough votes to pass the Dream Act this year. Just a little more, and we have it. People just need to be patient.

I agree with this as well. Nor should we overestimate our influence. Our activism and the connections members have made will all greatly help our cause - and could tip the balance in our favor -- but there are still things we have no control or influence over - which could ultimately be the reason DREAM Act passes or not this year.

Everyone on this forum should put as much effort and into DREAM Act as they can and as they are comfortable in doing. One member might have ten hours a week they can devote to DREAM Act a week while another member only an hour a week - but both efforts should be considered equal since we are all in different situations, comfort levels and areas of the country.
