I believe it's a combination of both. Having a good education and knowing the right people complement each other.
What good is it if you know the CEO of a company but you have no degree or have a degree but mediocre skills? You'll get fired eventually (If you are lucky enough to get hired in the first place).
Finally, I agree that college is not the only route to financial success. There are plenty of ways to achieve it.

OK, so I can just apply to be a doctor without a degree? That person they interviewed who said he doesn't care if the person has a degree kept talking about inflation and inflation is a huge topic in this video. It's just an ad to get people to buy their gold. Inflation has not been as low as it is right now in a looooooooooong time.

the only ones going that far into debt are the US citizen kids that go to private college and go out of state
