Did you apply online and just used your ITIN in place of a SSN?

What if the bank doesn't let me open up a saving account without an itin or ssn in the first place.I'v been told by some banks that I can only open a checking account.

You could try telling them you are a foreign student, hoping to open a savings account. They might let you slide with a passport and student ID.And then you could apply for an ITIN after you open the account.

How did you guys open credit cards online? I get the part where you guys say that in the SSN section you just put your ITIN. But it asks whether you're a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. Did you guys say yes to this question?

If you have a passport, you can use the passport ID number.
When I signed up for Wells Fargo student checking, the lady said that I'm only qualified for a checking account but I got savings account with it.

Btw, does anyone know for sure if I have to file a tax for my savings account?
My parents told me I have to so I'm not using my savings right now.

I applied for the student credit cards which i believe it is much easier than any other credit cards.

What you need to do is:
1. Get ITIN #

2. Get a bank acct, ( i believe you do not need a saving acct ). I have a washington mutual > chase now. you do need 2 pictures ID & ITIN# to open a checking&saving acct. you can use your students ID or any other type of ID that has ur picture in it.

3. Sign up online (citicards probably the easiest? becoz i got it? maybe? i acutally know alot of dreamer got approved and get alot of credit also).

4. Get ur utility bill ready !! (even if it's not in ur name, they will accept it. however, you do need to wait for ur bank statement.

5. Get a proof that you are going to school.

6. wait for a card ^^''

PS: i believe that was all =X ....

if i can remember anything, i'll let u know

Thanks, As far as points 4 and 5, did they actually ask you for those things after you applied online?

Citicards asks you whether you are a PR or USC, I assume you put no?

Again, thanks

I have a question.... My mom claims me as a dependent in her taxes so she got an ITIN number for me, can I use that number to apply for credit cards? Would it matter that she claims me in her taxes? Do ITIN numbers ever expire? Because ilve had mine for a long tome time already. Also which CitiCards credit cards are the best ones to apply for? Is it better to apply online ot by the phone? I applied for CapitalOne online and got denied!!
