Just wanted to share my AP experience.

I got back into the US with AP. I traveled from (FLL) Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport to (MBJ) Montego Bay Sangster International Airport. This was my first time on an airplane and first time back to Jamaica since entering the US in almost 18 years ago.

I requested AP for 4 months but they gave me 5.5 months. I applied for AP in July and was approved in October. I left for Jamaica this past Monday 11/7 and returned Friday 11/11. I traveled with my husband and daughter. Both USC. Husband is naturalized daughter is US born.

Leaving was pretty straight forward. We flew Caribbean Airlines. Thee only thing that was requested were our passports. When we got to immigration in Jamaica, I went to the Jamaican citizen’s line and my husband went to the visitor’s line.

We used JetBlue on our return flight from Montego Bay. We got to the check-in counter, my husband handed the employee all out passports. Everything was straightforward for my husband and child. When she got to my passport, she asked me if I had a green card. I handed her my AP document. She stared at it with a WTF is this type of look then she asked me if I had an alien registration document. I handed her my EAD. She stared at it and then she took both documents showed them to another agent who directed her to go somewhere and she walked away 100ft and turned around a corner. My heart was beating hard. She came back 5 minutes later and punched some info into the computer, handed me my boarding pass and told me to show the documents at boarding. I was relieved. I showed the paper at boarding but they barely glanced at it and told me to enjoy my flight. The flight was not bad. In the last 15 minutes of flights the pressure inside of the plane was high that it hurt a lot of people people’s ears. It was horrible. My ears are still hurting today. I went to the urgent care to get my ears checked and took my daughters to the pediatric today. The doctors said that my eardrum is inflamed.

The moment of truth. When I got off the plane my husband and I separated as I went to the visitor’s line and he went to the citizen’s line with our daughter.

When I got to the immigration agent. I handed my AP document, EAD and passport. The agent was very polite and friendly. He only asked me how long I was gone for and purpose of visit. My ears were hurting so bad that I had to ask him to repeat. He then gave me some advice on how to deal with the pain in my ears. He asked me if I had a custom declaration form I said my husband had it (they were giving only one per family on the plane) and he asked where my husband is and I told him that he went to the citizen’s line. The agent then said that my husband should have came with me which I thought was odd. He then led me to another room and then he went into a backroom of that room. I went to the restroom and when I came out another agent was at the desk in the room. He then called me up as he typed. Then stamped my passport and AP document and handed everything back and told me to have a nice day. I said “That’s it?” he said “yes mam enjoy your day.” And I said “you also” I was so happy and relieved after that. The entire process was only about 10 minutes long.

And just like that I am no longer EWI. Overall the entire process was a lot smoother than expected. I started on my AOS packet. Hope to send it off in the next week or 2. Very disappointed in Trump winning the election.

Congrats on your return! What was the reason for your travel? I applied for advance parole back in August and will be making 3 months at the end of November. Hoping to get an answer soon! Seems like it took you 3 months to get approved. I asked for multiple entry. Not sure if that ciuld be the reason why it's being delayed.

i applied this year and it took me about 2.5. months to be approved.

i think 2-3 months is average, so let us hope you get good news by the end of November.

one recommendation is to go out as soon as you can after receiving approval and to absolutely be back by January 20. nothing may happen on this day, but this is not a good time to gamble, IMO.

Humanitarian. My case was received July 22nd and approved on 10/05. So that's slightly less than 2.5 months. Document came in the mail about a week later.

Thanks. Overall everything was pretty smooth. I think I was more nervous than needed to be. The customs agents were very nice in the US. They appear to be fully familiar with the process of AP. They even told me how to pull up my i94 and use it to adjust. I also forgot to add that they took my fingerprints.

I wish you best of luck and hope everything comes through quickly.
