I thought that for UC and CSU the Cal Grants started in FALL 2012 NOT WINTER OR SPRING 2013. If any one who has applied for the CA Dream act what type of financial aid are you going to get come winter and spring 2013? I think that for community college starting Winter 2013 we will be able to aply for the BOGW waiver. I have not recieved any info on my award. My school was to say the least ill prepared for the whole process. I have been trying to make an appointment with a counselor but it is just completely full for the last few weeks.

Anyone with new info please let us know it would be very helpful. Like the person who posted the email he or she got,

Cal Grants star in fall 2013 if you apply and get into a UC or Cal state. Winter 2013 is the BOG fee waiver.

Of course it is why would it not. We don't qualify for fafsa and only applies to AB540 students that live ONLY IN CALIFORNIA.

DO NOT WAIT TILL JANUARY. Go back and see if you qualify for the BOG fee waiver that starts in JANUARY. Do not go by thier office in January if that is what you mean. Check that you will get the waiver come January BUT DO IT BEFORE JANUARY. Hope this helps. I am in the same situation.

I just checked online, and the current BoG applications have the following note:

Quote:
Note: Under the provisions of AB 131, students who are exempt from paying nonresident tuition under Education Code Section 68130.5 (AB 540) will become eligible to participate in the BOG Fee Waiver program on January 1, 2013. A special application form will be created for this purpose. The application will be distributed to financial aid offices on or before the January, 1, 2013, eligibility date.
So it's a matter of asking your CC's staff until the new application is available.

Board of Governor Waiver... it basically covers your tuition for you when you take the full time course load (15 units-I think?)

ok I'm a little confused because I'm hearing how people in other UCs have already received info on how much they are getting next year... anyone from UC Irvine? because I feel that I have not heard anything from them and I checked my OFAS account and it only said I missed the FAFSA date (I never bothered applying and I didnt think I qualify anyway). I turned in my application on time and the only reply I have ever received was that I was missing a parent signature, which I fixed right away. Havent heard from it since.

on another note, I've always felt UCI is not dreamer friendly. UCLA and UCB are more open to helping dreamers.

You have to email your schools fafsa department. I'm attending UCD in the fall and when I applied for ab131 I didn't get any reply for two months. So I took matters into my own hands and emailed them, got my letter of my unofficial amount (look a couple pages back on this topic) and now I'm waiting on any documents they'll need and whatever other requirements I have to follow until January 2013.
