just received my DL in the mail. it took 20 days exactly. When I opened it and checked the address it had my zip code wrong. I dont know how it got to me with the wrong zip code, but i'm happy. I'll order another one later.
2 year expiration date. Thats the only part that sucks but i'm okay with it for now!

Haha. No you can't. They require you to be next to a licensed driver with registration and insurance when you check in for your behind the wheel test. Very important!!!

Why do some people get 2 years while others get 5??

Doesn't matter who's car it is as long as it's registered and insured and the person that drove you there has a valid driver's license.

It's still not clear why some get the 5 year DL. The DMV website states that if your EAD is valid for less than 5 years from the date of applying, you will be issued a limited term driver license.

So, we should all be getting a 2 year license. It might depend on what the DMV worker inputs into the computer when you go to apply.

Okay, awesome, my brother-in law said that he asked and the person that drives you there has to have his car under his name. Off to the Bell Gardens DMV. I'm taking my car then! Hope I pass..hehe

Good luck! Make sure you study for your permit test. When I took it, everyone in front of me failed. I felt so bad! Also, there are a few different versions of the test.

I also called the legal presence department and the representative told me to fax over my EAD as well. He was nice and told me that the DMV mails out the copies of the EAD and it takes forever to get to. Either he's lying or the DMV that handled my case was slacking.

I'm more worried about the hands on part, even though I've been driving for 2 years haha. And you need to fax a copy of your EAD? Don't you take it with you in the first place?

Yea, they made a copy of EAD. But the DMV has to forward it to the Legal Presence unit in Sacramento. It hasn't been reviewed yet so the guy on the phone told me to just fax it over so I can it done with. I've been waiting for nearly a month.

The driving test can be nerve racking. A person in front of me took a turn onto the street and turned right back into the parking lot for some automatic fail reason that I don't know. lol Don't think about it until you pass the permit test. For the driving test, biggest things are common sense. But when you practice it, you literally need to practice it over dramatically doing it. Meaning stopping at the stop sign 3 seconds. Every time you turn or change lanes you TURN your head to check blind spots. The administrator made me agree with him that when you do your hair in the morning you don't just look in the mirror but you turn head to check the back. The speed limit is a must follow. Know your arm signals. Stop behind the cross walk lanes. When you pull over the side of the road and reverse, make sure you keep your steering wheel straight and look back while reversing the entire time not using the mirror. The guy told me they used to not be able to speak to the driver's about random things during the test... but now they're allowed and he would NOT shut up! He said it's good practice and talking in the car makes you a fun driver. lol!
