Been here since I was 13. 21 now, I really don't know what to do if I would have had to head back to my home country. I've been living for the past 8 years pretty peacefully. Might as well make it count while I am here. When ever they are ready to take me I'll always be right here. The apprehension is the real killer.

i dont want to go against DREAM'S own argument but.....stop it with "this is the only country i know , this is my home " that may be true, but immigrants adapt well when they move to another country looking for opportunities. Adults who come here, they adjust well dont they? YOU WILL ADAPT. If you're only depending on laws to get you legal.....well, you are sentencing yourself to live in the shadows for a looooooooong time.

what i am going to say is if you have a BS or MS degree, you should probably consider going to another country now instead of wasting your talents here. I am thinking about leaving as soon as i get my MS in engineering. I already waited for 10 years for this thing, and there is not that many 10 years left in my life. Imaging in other country, at least you have the chance of becoming something, but without document in this country, you cant do anything.
However, i will advise you to get your degree 1st. Competition in other countries are definitely tough.

well for most of us, this is our HOME! and yes we can adapt to any environment. that's part of human survival. we HAVE to adapt to survive. its a must! but then again the country that we are originally from doesn't offer the same OPPORTUNITIES as they do here. That's the only reason why our parents moved out is to give us, their children, a better life. so why would you go back? and NO we are not depending ONLY on laws to get legal, we're depending on those laws to survive, to make something out of ourselves. to have a better FUTURE. so why go back or why move somewhere else, if we can have a real shot on making it happen here? it may not be an easy shot but ill take it.

Absolutely Taoni10, i agree with you completely. That is exactly what i am doing also. I think i have seen you post before, isn't your background in Mechanical Engineering also?

Anyways, i think your advice is really good and people should really consider it. Like you, i also plan on getting a PhD in software engineering and hopping out of dodge (my BS will be in ME). I didn't ask to come to this country, but this is where i am, so i have to take advantage of my situation. Although, i am kind of looking forward to putting myself to good use and contributing to my home country (Mexico).
