I actually have a valid SSN so how does this affect me in applying for a WA license? I'm not in a position where I need to drive around as my parents have licenses and we're doing alright.

BUT, if I needed a license in the future, would this process be easier for me since I have a SSN?

I applied for a DL about a week or so, and went through the exact same thing. I filled out the form, waited for an hr and a half (I snoozed most of it) at the DOL, showed my Passport, Birth Certificate, and Matricula. After I talked to the clerk, I had my picture taken and they gave me a lollipop (not really, I just took it) I'm still waiting for that letter to come in the mail.

short answer, yes.

Here's the process I went through vs the new process:

Old process: Get an appointment, show proof of residency, get a sheet of paper that says you can legally drive but your pending verification of your address. It's usually valid for two months. Then in the mail you get a letter with some information that you have to fax in and sign by a certain date from a WA fax number. Then they'll call you and set up an "interview" where you bring TWO valid proofs of residency. If you miss your appointment, the cancel your license then and there and you have to start the entire process over. They verify your residency then and there and then send your license in the mail. If you don't have enough proof of residency, they'll request you to bring more proofs and if you're papers proofs of residency are fake, you can be arrested for fraud. If everything goes ok (which it should if you have two proofs of residency that are legit) they mail you your license within 7-10 days. They tell you before you leave the little room. The good thing about this, although all the trips are a royal pain in the ass, your license is pretty much totally safe from being cancelled due to insufficient proof of residency because they make sure to prove your residency before issuing it. If you remember a couple months (or maybe a year or two ago) back, they went on a license canceling spree but with this new process, if you get your license, you're safe.

The New Process: (keep in mind i didn't go through it - someone i know is) You set up an appointment before your actual appointment. You come in, take your picture, establish your identity. Bring your proofs of residency. Then they'll call you and set up an appointment for your road test. When you pass it, you get the sheet of paper again. They mail you the forms that you have to fax in from a WA fax number and then they'll call you for your final step. Bring in both proofs of residency and they'll verify your residency and then mail it to you in 7-10 days, if everything goes okay. Again, if you fake proof of residency, you can be arrested for fraud. And if you miss your appointment, they cancel your license on the spot and you have to start the entire process over. But again, if you get through the entire process and they issue you your license, you're pretty much safe from cancelation due to the fact that they extensively made sure that you are a WA resident.

The new system is designed so that you have to make multiple trips to the DOL which is hard to do if you're from another state. So it's their way of really controlling what's happening.
Do you know how long they will call to setup appointment? Because on my application, almost 4 weeks they still not call me.
Do you think i have to call them or not? Thank you

I heard that the calls are at random times so people from out of state can't time their trip back. It's really random on of my friends had to wait two months for a call.

Bad analogy - we are like cockroches, they try to kill us and put us down but we are fuckn still here. bitches and were still gonna be here after the apocolypse
If you still want to get your license at WA State, you're going to want to make sure lease/rent an apt., phone bail and/or electric bail at least a week before you apply; because, they will check the date of your documents. Most people have had to make an appointment for an interview to get their licenses/permits to review their proof of residency.

I know this because I'm currently waiting to get my license in WA State.
