It all depends on who helps you out at the social security office. I went Monday to request a SSN and when the process was complete the girl (pretty cute by the way) said I would receive the card in about two weeks. Thats when I asked her when I would be able to get a prinout. She told me *she would actually give me a call* to let me know that I was already assigned a number. And today Wednesday she called me telling me I could go pick up the printout. So now I have my SSN!!! 
This was in San Jose, CA by the way...

I went to the one in Glendale btw. Also heard the one in Burbank is easy. (Dunno where in LA you live >.<)

So I have my SSN, and I will apply for my first nursing job! I can't believe it! Thanks for all the info guys! You make such a big difference!
