The immigration checkpoint is on the way UP to Los Angeles FROM San Diego on the 5. If you're on your way down, you'll be fine. But then again, with EAD in hand, you'll be fine either way

But here is my plan--Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, San Clemente, Ocean Beach, Imperial Beach, La Jolla, Mission Beach...hehehe. Have fun. I heard the gas lamp district is fun too!!!

Like I said, driving DOWN to San Diego is no problem. The stop is on the way UP. And that's on the 5. If you take the 15, that checkpoint is always closed. I don't even think anyone is ever there. I live in San Diego, and go up to Hollywood all the time. I'm not the one driving, obviously, but the drive up is stressful. They're not always checking, but I've driven through 3 times while they were, and we were waived through every time. I've never had to actually stop and talk to them.

Laguna, Newport, and La Jolla are the best places out of those. Starting with La Jolla. The Encinitas bar scene is pretty fun too. And yes, the gaslamp is freaking insane! So much to do, and so much fun!

No, I am going to wait until my actual date. I want them to see I am a good citizen. That and plus my brother is driving me down there since is like a 30 minute drive. He is a citizen and stuff. I am not in a hurry right now. I want to wait to early 2013 to get a job. I have a B.A. so I will be looking for something professional and career oriented. I want to work for a city. So, I am looking for something specific. I have been here since 22 years so whats a couple more months.

If ever we're stopped by immigration driving north from SD, what happens? Do they just ask for identification? In which case we'd show our Cali IDs or license or do they ask for our status?

Because the San Ysidro checkpoint is where you cross over from Tijuana. Is the main border crossing. You can go be around it but don't go through it unless you want to take a trip to Mexico and not come back. The San Clemente chekpoint is already inside CA. There is also a newly opened checkpoint at the border. I forget the name but it just opened.
