Get a new card

you have to get a new card?? I'd rather not wait 4-6 weeks unless i absolutely have to.

Can anyone please confirm this? I wanted to go tomorrow but if this is the case then I can just wait a few more days. My "valid from" date is 9/20.

I went today to the SS office. My EAD was also issued on 09/20/12 so they only saved my application and gave me a reference number. They said they will try again on October 1st to see if immigration will validate my documents or something like that so they can issue me a social. I guess I could have waited til Monday but I doubt it would have made a difference since there are other dreamers who have more than 1o days since they applied for a social and still haven't received it.

Well, it's not a big deal, but you may want to have a card that has the correct immigration authority on it INS is now USCIS.

And it won't take 4-6 weeks. After your 10 day wait for the database update it will probably take another 10 days to get the card.

I got my information from an SSA employee. I don't know how much additional confirmation you need.

Thanks for the info! The only reason i would need a new card is because the signature on mine is my mothers (i was too young). Will they take that card away? Thats something I dont feel comfortable doing until i have a new one in my hand.

Also do you have to give up your parents SSN info? I saw it on the forms. This is another thing im skeptical about doing

There is NO, ABSOLUTELY NONE, guarantee you'll be in the SAVE database by then.
Yes it is a good advise to go after the pre-requisite wait time, but during my initial visit to SSA they wanted me to wait 10+ days from that day about 17 days after my EAD was issue. I confronted a more helpful SSA rep who made SSNAP send a IV request 10 days after the fact. That still did not guarantee I was in the SAVE database as I am still waiting to clear DHS checks with SSA.

my current not vaild for work social only has my paternal last name yet my pass nd ead have both last names. will ssa replace my card with both names?

I guess I'll just wait until Monday.
