I got my DL and State ID yesterday. What an ordeal. I was issued a DL back in 2001 and it expired in 2005, couldn't renew for obvious reasons. She mentioned I needed to go to a different DMV and the nearest one was about 15+ miles away. Long story short, I got a lecture on how I should not have gotten a DL 10 years ago and the driving test instructor was a bit of a jerk, probably because I was the last one and it was dark out already, but thankfully I got all taken care of.

Good Luck!
Which DMV gave you the hard time and which DMV issued your new DL?

another member had to pay extra $70 because the system showed he was sent to court for driving without a DL years ago...I went to court 3 times and I was expecting to pay that extra $70, but it they never said anything to me when I got my DL. weird stuff on different DMVs I suppose.

I believe you only have to pay the fee if you have had some sort of license before. For example, if in high school you were provided a driving permit, years later the permit expired, then you received a ticket for driving without a license, the permit you were given in high school would be revoked. Once DACA approved, the person would have to pay a fee to cancel the revoked 'license.' I use this example because it happened to my sister.

However, if you never had a license and were given a ticket for driving without a license then there would be no license to revoke, and then once one was DACA approved, you would not have to pay a fee to cancel a revoked license since you never had one in the first place.

When I obtained my drivers permit in high school, I got caught driving with it and was arrested for "failure to produce a DL" since I was not driving with a licensed driver. I had to go to court and had to take my father (since I was 17).

And I got caught two more times again (these times over 18 and my permit had long expired and never produced it at the time of getting stopped).

That is why I anticipated paying that fee.

So I don't have a clear answer yet but do you have to put both last names on the License? Cause that would suck.

You don't fill out anything (except if you decide to be an organ donor), but in regards to DL and ID, the clerk takes your documents and inputs info on the system.

I'm the person that had to pay that $70 reinstatement fee. I was caught driving without DL back in '05. They said I had a hold on my name and they made me pay reinstatement fee. Total for DL was $100. I never had a license nor a driving permit. who knows. it came out to like $20 a year so I still gladly paid it.

I think it goes by whats on EAD. My EAD only has first name last name so my license only has first name last name.
