So if you expire 8/17 and are renewed 9/17... the new EAD and DACA are dated 9/17... there's no provision to 'cover' that month in between...

Also there's no interim EAD available.

We just wait.

I'm sorry to hear about the miscommunication and further delay. Hopefully we will see that August wave of renewals arrive soon.

I keep hearing August waves of renewal.. is there a pattern in previous years that this has occurred?

Dating back to the original DACA announcement in 2012, the earliest applicants saw approvals in August and September. Because renewals generally track the the same month (or around the same time), the first round of approvals followed a similar timeline. The hope is that the trend will continue for this second round of renewals.

That's only if assume that people got their renewal approved on the same month as their original daca. My daca was first approved in October, my first renewal was approved super extra fast. It was approved in July (that's three months before my original expiration date).

Correct, but we are looking for a general trend here. By and large, DACA applicants saw their first renewals track very closely to their first approvals from 2012.

It's sad and frustrating but we just have to accept the fact that USCIS is WAY behind and there is no way they will catch on. The Nebraska center was on feb 4 on July 15. It's been 2 weeks already and they haven't even reached February 18 (which is when they got my application). I think that gives you an idea of how slow they are working! It's super frustrating but there's nothing we can do.

There will be outliers with any prediction model. Everyone is trying to predict progress at USCIS, and without more advanced data, the only thing we can really look at are historical trends. This is not an exact science; we are doing our best to determine when activity will next appear.

Nobody could apply before June 2012 because that's when DACA was first announced. Many applied at the earliest possible opportunity, which manifested in August and September approvals.

Not true. I was one of the first few to apply for DACA before June 2012 due to a pending court case that ended in prosecutorial discretion by ICE.

Like you stated, however, the first large batch of renewals will start to roll in this month since many applied for the initial DACA program in August 2012 (expiration date would be 3-6 months from this date).

If USCIS cannot handle the backlog now, it will certainly be a challenge once they start receiving the majority of renewal applications starting this month.
