Also, should I apply for a CA ID as well when I take my permit test or just wait till I take driving test, which won't be for a while because I need to get use to being behind the wheel. Any thoughts?

i just checked the statu of my ID and now it changes but its says
Identification card F500**** was mailed on 12/10/2012. No further action is required on your part.
and today is 12/06/12... so i think i should arrive by monday 12/10

I got my license today! Good luck to you!
Don't start the car without you or the instructor having your seat belt.
Know your arm signals, know where the emergency flashers are, your headlights, your wipers, your defroster(front) , hand break or emergency break. When backing up ( they make u do that, at least in california) make sure you look back, and not through your mirrors. Speed limit in residential and business districts is 25mph unless posted. Scanning! So important! And look at your blind spots whenever changing lanes. Good luck!
