In Fort Worth Tx, you can do a walkin but not sure about Houston. But I think this is important enough to take a sick day and try it... hope for the best for you

I would continue doing so. I'm expired, but I work somewhere. I'm not gonna wait until they finally approve me.

You're lucky. Some people have hr on their ass. What kind of work do you do? Blue collar job?

Many people got approved in less than a month, some of them were even approved the next day after their biometic .
I am still waiting for mine as well .

Have you tried contacting your Senator or Congressmen (assuming they are immigrant friendly)? That can sometimes help.

No, I haven't tried contacting any senator/congressmen. I have tried to contact USCIS but even they have a very long turn around time (15 days) for case inquiry. Like at this point my life is starting to fall apart. I'm going to be done with my Ph.D in like 3 months and I'm not being paid because my EAD expired. I have no way to support myself except relying on some saving. My parents live in another state and moving back home is not an option.

If DACA is gone next month, there will be turmoil for sure.

You need to go knock on some doors and make sure you finish up your Ph.D - even if you have to live on the floor in your lab.
