I did this about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything from them. Tried signing up at Credit Karma and it said my credit couldn't be found.

Did you have credit on a number made out of thin air? Do you know if it belonged to anyone?

No. I had an ITIN for something like 18 years. I had used it to open up a bank account/credit cards/utilities so I should have decent credit. I want that credit to transfer to my new SSN but it might take a while.

Anytime you do a credit check it will create an inquiry and it will add the new number matching your name, address, and date of birth. On your credit report it will show BOTH numbers. Once you update you SSN with all your creditors with the new number you should send a letter to all three credit reporting companies to remove the old number.

template http://dreamact.info/forum/showpost....94&postcount=5

after you send the 3 letters, it says to wait a month or two, then check your credit history at AnnualCreditReport.com for all 3 agencies for free, to see if the transfer was successful. If not, you gotta call each agency to sort out the problem.

more info on what to do with ITIN after new SSN

Did you open yours with a made up number? I have read doing this change when they use their ITIN to open.... O have not send the letters yet I have 8 yrs of credit but I am scared it will create an issue

I sent the letters as described above, all three agencies responded back within a week with a letter of confirmation, also sent me copy of my credit history.

Make sure the letter is concise and you include copies of all documents they ask for.
