Any thoughts on the potential Public charge as it relates to Immigration?

Background: If an immigrant uses public charge (medicare, food stamps etc.), it can prevent them from applying for Citizenship or as a Citizen bar you from sponsoring.

My thoughts: I agree with this policy. As an immigrant, you should not be a burden to the government or its tax payers. You also should not be able to sponsor. As a sponsor, you are financially responsible for the person you sponsor. If you are burden to the tax payers, so will the person you sponsor.

Yeah I agree.

They need to get rid of the visa lottery too. And put in place a guest worker program where 90% of their total compensation is paid in their home country after going back.

What about those with green cards? Or in process of obtaining green card? No medicare? Because sometimes people lose jobs or whatever happen to their lives they beed help. This is not to say I don’t agree some services may be citizen only.

I think it takes into consideration special circumstances. Ex: you were on medicaid until you found a job but overall, it stops abuse of public assistance.

Fair. Though Trump wants to eliminate all. Anyway, we ain’t even legal. But I don’t mind losing access to government aids if it means I get a conditional green card.

Nobody said anything about conditional residency. This applies to ALL immigration - Legal or otherwise. It also applies to any citizens who plan on sponsorship spouse, children or family members.

That's the Republican sales pitch: We just want to make sure we don't get lazy people to drain our welfare from you hard working citizens. It's not how this works though.

First off, it has always been against the law for non-citizens to get welfware except for very specific occurances.

2nd, the burden of proof is now shifted from the sponsor to the alien. It's not enough to show that you can support them or sign an affidavit of support. The immigrant now has to go through an entire process to prove they won't be a burden- in other words, prove a negative.

That means if a USC wants to sponsor their parents, their parents will go under a microscope and will be rejected if they are over a certain age, have an illness or disability, are not highly educated, don't have assets, etc. etc. etc. and best case, you have pay a $8100 bond for each one. in addition to all the other fees which you can bet will be higher since the lawyers will have to fill out more things.

This podcast will explain it all more in detail: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/kuc...our/e/63183241

In other words, don't believe the Republican narrative. This is a terrible rule change and if it stays, sooner or later it will bite all of us in the ass.

I pay taxes just like everyone else if I lose my job and want to get unemployment, would it be fair to say that since I pay into the system, I should be able to obtain the benefits without negative consequences?

I don't think unemployement is on their list. I think it's more a long the lines of SNAP, medicaid, section 8 housing, etc.
