There is an article here concerning the President's 1 hour long meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The article highlights the President will be taking a trip to Mexico next month & will lay out his plan for reform sometime in May according to the advocacy group in the article.
Quote:
According to the White House account of the one-hour closed session, it was "a robust and strategic meeting" where Obama announced he will go to Mexico next month to meet President Calderon.

"The President discussed how the administration will work with the CHC to address immigration concerns in both the short and long term," the White House said.

With Calderon, he plans "to discuss the deep and comprehensive US-Mexico relationship, including how the United States and Mexico can work together to support Mexico’s fight against drug-related violence and work toward effective, comprehensive immigration reform. Since their meeting in January, the President has repeatedly praised President Calderon for his extraordinary work to solve these challenges, which are important to communities and families on both sides of the border."

According to an immigrant advocacy group in Massachusetts, Obama is to lay out his proposal in May.

"We are pleased that the President met with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to reiterate his commitment to immigration reform and that he will be laying out his plan for such reform in early May," Eva A. Millona, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, said in a statement. "Creating a just and humane immigration system in this country is long overdue. For too long, families have been torn apart, workers have been forced to live in the shadows and the country has been suffering because of our broken system.

Hopefully its something real.. but come on guys ,, what happen with change.org..the dream act was in the first 10 ideas.. one more thing remember that all republicans are against the president..it will be a hard battle.. i just wish the Dream act its seen as an Educational Reform more than an immigration reform..

I find the current situation in Mexico highly troubling since not only does it have the potential to eclipse the immigration debate but it may put CIR in jeopardy if the situation escalates and the US sees refugee inflows. It's going to be extremely difficult to legalize a predominantly Mexican population if the gruesome images from the drug war become commonplace on American television.

There is even more information in this article concerning the meeting between the Hispanic Caucus & the President.
Quote:
Obama told the group that he will work immigration system in a similar way that he has rolled out other major policy initiatives. There will be a public forum on immigration, possibly within the next two months.

At that forum, key principles of a legislative package would be unveiled, Gutierrez said
......

............. While working towards legislation, the Obama administration is working on internal changes at the Department of Homeland Security, including a review of work-place raids.

I concur. And Obama has explicitly stated that education along with healthcare reform and energy are the issues he has in mind for reform in the near future.

I hope that national dream act advocates who have sway in washington made very wise moves in light of this.

I guess we have two routes to take now. Either DREAM be attached to an Education bill or CIR. It probably won't come up as a stand alone bill anymore. I hope it does get attached to the education bill though, since it will probably be addressed first and has a better chance of passing through.
