It looks like activists are planning another May 1st march.I'm skeptical how effective this would be,but everyone has to do their part somehow no matter how it may appear.
Quote:
In what has become an annual rite of spring, immigrant advocates announced plans Tuesday for another march through downtown Chicago on May 1 to push for federal reforms on behalf of those in the country illegally.

"They've done much to resolve the problems of the banks, the auto industry and all the other corporations, but they haven't figured out how to resolve the problems of the people," march organizer Jorge Mujica said about Congress during a news conference. "We want a resolution for not 25,000 people, not 50,000 people but all 12 million of the undocumented workers in this country."

Where community frustration helped draw crowds of several hundred thousand demonstrators since the marches began in 2006, plans for this year's rally through the Loop come as federal policies toward Immigration enforcement appear to be shifting from raids that have affected thousands of families.

This week, Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed an imminent shift in enforcement guidelines toward employers with illegal workers and away from the laborers. Last year, about 367,000 illegal workers were deported, with about 11,000 around Chicago, federal records show.

With movement in Congress to reintroduce legislation later this year that would create a path toward legalization for illegal immigrants, activists on both sides of the issue are gearing up for another fight. The "Dream Act" would create conditional legal status for undocumented college students.

I agree. If they wanna show loyalty they must only fly the American flag.

That is one of the saddest things about marches and parades. They can be effective but one has to be careful. Usually, they will ask everyone and their mothers to do something specific and then at the last minutes we get the free spirit. Then when the media comes, they do not take pictures of the 99.9% but of the free spirit. It is irritating.

Yea, that happen around here. A group made a parade and asked everyone to wear white and use the American flag. One of the organizers got offended because they had the right to show their Mejican pride. Well, the other organizers told her that she could show her Mexican pride in Mexico but that the parade was to show how immigrants were part of the community.

She drop them and made her own parade, it had a handful of marchers compared with the other. Never-the-less, the media flock the parade because 10 marchers with the mexican flag look sexier and grab more attention than 100 people with the American flag.

Oh, the horror...the horror

I kinda find no point to those marches because as stated by everyone only the few ignorant people that decide to show off their native flag instead of the U.S flag get all the Attention. I wish all that energy could be used towards more effective means of attention like Calls,Faxes,e-mails to congress.

with that said Detroit will also have a March on May 1st

Well all i know is that here in chicago the people who have power are the news from univision and el pistolero from the radio. i know that if they say not to bring any mexican flags than many ppl will listen. So if we only want american flags than they need to spread out the news!! but like fast!!!!! because may 1 is 30 days away!

I agree. If only they understand that the point that they are trying to make is lost when they fly other non-American flags. There are different ways and occasions to show your pride in your heritage, marches to ask for immigration reform is definitely not one of them! Waving a non-American flag just gives ammunition to those who oppose CIR.

If they would wear red, white, and blue and would all wave the American flag, then it would show that we are embracing the country where we want to live and want to be part of. This would help our case a lot!
